Great morning on this solemn holiday of Memorial Day. For all those who died while serving our great country, we honor your sacrifice.

sunny and warm today, so we are doing more gardening and weeding. Grilled burgers for dinner, a perfect unofficial start to summer.

They are doing a fly over over the military cemetery where a very good friend of mine is buried & I would SO love to go - but it's closed because of COVID. So they are doing this awesome thing & no one can go. Stupid COVID.

Good morning gardeners and Happy Memorial Day. Not too much going on in the garden right now. I did thin the turnips yesterday. I was still a little worn out from Saturday's work. I did manage to make a little progress on the mini coop yesterday. I can get an earlier start on that today. Knock on wood, but the forecast has been adjusted so the temps are not supposed to hit 90F for Tuesday and Wednesday so hopefully will be able to make progress on the little coop. Welcome to the newcomers on the thread, the world can always use more gardeners. I am quite happy that my cabbage is doing well. I was a bit concerned but I have 4 nice looking starts so I'm excited to see them develop into the coneheads. I'm glad your littles are in the big coop with the other hens @Sueby. BTW: nice wild birds you got there. I've not seen pheasant near me, but lots of turkeys. Have a great day everyone.

Now my mean girl has her chick she doesn't love me anymore, not like she ever did once broody. Best wishes!

If only mine would go broody - then she'd at least have a purpose in life besides just being mean to the littles! Chickens are funny, aren't they? She still loves you, lol.

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

We put out weed barrier and straw in garden. Staked tomato's.

Apparently they are supposed to do a fly over between Boston and Springfield sometime today. That's too far south for me to see.

Oh I hadn't heard that - cool! I just found out that the whole ceremony at the military cemetery, flyover & all, will be on tv at 10am. Happy about that, not the same as in person, but D would love it nonetheless.

I forgot I have a question regarding asparagus crowns. Most likely directed @karenerwin. How long after planting the crowns do you see any sprouts? I tried googling it and can't seem to find a good answer.

I don’t actually remember but it seems like it took a while. Like you forget about them and then they finally send up tiny little thin stalks.
