What did you do in the garden today?

It's a tough call for me, if the bear is deemed to be a nuisance eventually they will destroy it. People think they just relocate them, they do not. & as the saying goes, a fed bear is a dead bear. Last year a couple of them broke into peoples houses not far from here. We had one walk into a package store (liquor store for you non new englanders, lol) right by my work! I still find that hilarious, he needed a drink. Thankfully a worker reacted quickly enough to push the button & shut down the automatic door so it only made it into the entry way, not fully in the store.
I remember the video of that bear encounter on our local news.

But my tomatoes seemed to be doing well and I tasted the endive yesterday and it is ready to eat. Yum!
I'm going to have to try endive, it was always expensive in the stores so I haven't even tasted it. Do you grow it like lettuce?
this is so me. i have to sit by the pond when i am refilling or topping off or i forget the water is on. i come out the next day to a flooded yard.
Hah! Same thing would happen when we'd refill our old pond. We'd start it then go inside and forget it completely. We finally learned to set a timer.
finish closing in the soffits on the chicken run so i can leave their door open at night,
I just started leaving the pop door open all the time. Our run is fort knox but I was still nervous the first few nights. The chickens love that they can get out as early as they want.
Have a great day all. I'm so flustered with the bear I forget what I wanted to say to a couple of you, lol.
I would be too. When they start knocking over trash cans the state traps and kills them here too.

Good morning gardeners, it's been raining a bit here so I haven't had to water much lately, enjoying it while it lasts, dryer weather is doubtless coming. But I really love the cool damp days. Yesterday we worked on the rabbit tractor, the cuts were incorrect on the instructions so that complicated it some but we're nearly done and I feel like we can make more and even improve them. Maybe even get that meat bird grow out pen made.

Got to get another 2x2 at the lumber store and then make the cover/lid. We're pretty happy with the build. I kinda wanna make something else now :).

I know I saw how to grow Belgian Endive on the children's program Sendung mit der Maus, but cannot find that episode online. My memberberry says they use large blacked out cool houses for it in the commercial version of production.

found it naturally after posting well something similar and in english:

The type I have is the leaf variety. It is sometimes labeled as “frisée.” If you ever get the prepackaged salad mix, they usually include that. It is much milder than Belgian endive. It grows like lettuce. I’ll take a picture and post it in the morning. It has a nice texture and gives a little interest to romaine or butter crunch lettuce.

Ok so after 4 hours of the chicks ignoring a prime slice of cantaloupe I brought in a gentle pro. I found Tiny Diva acting a tad broody and tossed her in to get her share of it for the day. IMG_6506.JPG

I also cut her puff way back until I found some eyes in there.

Regardless, she wasn't a good fit as she decided for once she was the biggest baddest chicken on earth(for once) and after setting up on the feeder pecked the youngins mercilessly if they got close. I had hoped she might be slightly maternal but that just shows what I know.

Super looking you did very nice work there

OK so I took my remaining (gave the rest away) carefully sprouted, loved, and doted over loofa plant to the garden. I walked the seedling pot from the garage, through the house, out the lower level door and to the garden. When I reached down to pop it out of the pot, it was GONE! DH said it made a run for it. That it probably has a better chance for survival in the wild.

I retraced my steps and it's no where to be found!

I'm guessing the chicken ate it when it hit the ground. Sigh....

Remember the violet jam of a couple of weeks ago? Sis sent me this. PEONY jelly!
