What did you do in the garden today?

Morning everyone!

@Wee Farmer Sarah I buy a lettuce mix that has endive in it, I love it. Sorry, no help on the cabbage.

@katiefloy my 50 gal rain barrel sits up on a big tree stump so I can get water out of it.

The dew on the squash leaves this am, it was so neat!

I have a teeny squash!

Check out this bee - is that a load of pollen on his back legs?

I can't get dill to grow where I planted the seeds, but it's found its way into every dang house plant I have.

& I agree, I love pics. It gives me great ideas & I love to see the diversity of both plants & climates of us all.

It was nice & cool last night, had the fan on instead of the AC. Did some weeding in the front flower beds. I'd get rid of all of them if I had my choice. I'm a person who has things in gardens & beds that are useful, if I can't eat it, cook with it, or if it doesn't feed the pollinators I don't need it.

No sign of the bear last night, put all the chickens feed stations away & blocked the coop in with the truck. Will probably do that for a few nights till it's moved along.

Have a fantastic day all!

Got the flag up bright and early this morning. Got smacked in the face when it caught the 35 mph winds and whipped around.
Managed breakfast and lessons, and then headed out to hand water the garden. I need 11 more irrigation barbs to make sure each plant gets it's own watering head and I need to make a mini soaker hose for the cabbage under the netting. Then to water I'll just need to turn on the spigot for 15 minutes twice a day.
As long as I was out there, I pulled a 5 gallon bucket of weeds and pinched off lower branches of tomatoes. I have two plants that are loosing their leaves to a muncher, but I cannot find a worm anywhere. HUMPH.
Also have 4 plants I don't like the look of. Its' early enough to rip them out and replace them. I'll be able to get a nice deal from the tractor store this time of year.

Need to sew my last apron and a skirt for tomorrow's event incase I decide to go. I also have the State Olympic games torch run just after dawn in the morning. I'm glad I don't have a later spot to do my 1 mile bit, it's heading over 100 tomorrow with the humidity.

Chocolate babka and regular weekly loaves need to go in the oven today too.

Tuesday I'll can all the chicken breast I bought yesterday.

Have a great day all! Go out and grab a weed or two.

@katiefloy
They'll be fine.
Mine are under a popup screen tent to keep the moths away. They go under the second the plant are in the ground. That provides a tiny amount of shade. Otherwise, watering in the morning, and a light soak in the soil AROUND the plants in the early evening is plenty. (Some people can get by with a deep soaking once a week. There's no way I could do that here with all my wind.) They are heavy feeders, so don't forget to feed often. I fertilize with simple 10-10-10 pellets every 10-14 days. I use the pellets as that's what I buy bulk for the orchard. They need to be used sparsely around the veg plants or they'll burn if not well watered in.

We've been WELL over 90 every day since May 30th. UGH.

This is Burpees Curly Green Endive.
See I thought endive was just that weird pale thing in those videos. I will add that to my lettuce seed. Can it be grown as a fall crop? Getting a little late here for lettuce seed.
i found some extra birdhouses in the shed so decided to use them as post caps.
That is darling, I've been thinking of adding bug houses to our raised beds but I might make extras and put them on the fence tops as well.

Yup, it is.

We love the bumble bees and they love the borage and salvia I planted in the raised beds. I was going to make bumble bee nests in the ground along the back property line but the plans came from a guy in England and I don't think they get yellow jackets there and we do big time here so maybe not.

Watering is done for the day except for the railing herb planters. I want to get the scrap boards added to the pallet/deck so I can start cramming more plants on it. I HAVE to remember to start using the alfalfa pellets I got last fall to use as gentle fertilizer for my winter crops. We can feed some of them to the bunnies but I have rather a lot. Anyone else ever use alfalfa either pellets or hay as fertilizer?

And then again we might go fishing again :)

Seems to be a plant in late summer and sprout it out any time of the year from the video as long as you keep those roots frozen per the video. I have never grown it myself. The german program didn't use soil of any type to sprout them just a cool warehoused darkened space and misters for water. Also my mother in law never fed it to me guess I wasn't that special. My wife says it was her mom's favorite dish :( When she watched the video she was surprised I have never had it there. I remember being served mountains of red cabbage though that is not a favorite of mine. Regardless, DW is a fan of red cabbage. I am mean and miserly when we pass it on our ethnic isle at the store. I am not spending $5 on 0.75 cents of kraut. Sure she has her own cards but I am just me.

I'm using alfalfa hay as mulch in my gardens, sometimes I'll use Timothy instead. The pellets soak up water and expand so keep them in a single layer and sparingly or you'll end up with a gross mess.

I have sourdough loaf rising last time before it goes in the Oven but...
Son and I went in the garden cut spinach, mustard, lettuce and arugula all back to stems.
Have all of it come back nicely it was all ready to bolt ... I use 1 part dish soap 10 parts water
to spray my roses for aphids or any other plants getting bugged :frow
