What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning all! I just found this thread!
We brought in our first spaghetti squash & I made homemade sauce with the tomatoes, peppers & fresh herbs from our garden, the remaining ingredients came from the store.
We picked & canned 24 quarts of tomatoes yesterday. That was half of what was ripe...so we will be back at it today!
We will be harvesting our corn soon & putting it up in the freezer!
Here's a few pictures of our garden...this was earlier in the year...I'll get some current pictures & share them after the sun comes up...I woke up way to early today!
Beans, tomatoes, Zucchini, spaghetti squash, cucumber, peppers, potatoes & garden box section!

nice garden! Looks pretty green for E WA! But, you said it’s been 25 years you’ve been there. My spouse grew up in the Ephrata/Soap Lake area of E WA, and they had a huge garden, and orchard. spouse enjoyed looking at pics and figured if you have that much basalt coming up, the raised beds are probably helping out a lot bc better soil in a much thicker layer, not to mention back friendly. Are you on a hill?

It's different than soaker hose, I was trying to get a link to what we bought, but the page isn't loading for some reason. Here's the product...5/8", 15 mil, 8 inch, 0.67 GPM/100', 1000', Toro Aqua-Traxx® we bought it at Irrigation King, best price we could find, you also have to buy the fittings for it. I can let you know what landscape fabric we used, if you're interested. It's all a small investment that has been totally worth it!
I want that drip tape! Does it drip at the end furthest from your water sources? That's the problem I'm having with my soaker hose, goes like crazy at the connection end but doesn't soak enough at the far end.

Thank you! It takes a lot of water to keep everything that green. Surprisingly the main garden doesn't have any of the large basalt, it was very sandy when we started, it has taken many years to get good soil. We put in the raised beds to save our :old backs...lol. We moved the top soil into the boxes. We are located below Mattawa so our place isn't on a huge hill...we did however have enough of a hill to build our house with a daylight basement! There is a lot of land in this area with a ton of basalt, we were blessed to find some with much less. The foundation of our house however was poured over boulders that were too big to dig out!

Hi IM! It can leak a little at the ends, but it hasn't been an issue. This stuff is like drip tubing with built in emitters, you can have it on the surface & you can also cover it with dirt. When we hilled the potatoes and corn...we put the dirt right over it. It does an amazing job, you will really like it, especially if you combine it with the landscape fabric! It's so much better than soaker hose!

Edit to add: I read your question again & misunderstood it the first time. It drips pretty evenly all of the way to the end!

Hi, nice to see you on the gardening thread! Thanks for the info on the tape. Leaking at the ends is ok as long as it drips all the way through.

Nice haul @karenerwin!

I have terrible eyesight even with glasses on and I think that's part of my problem. Anyone using a overhead trellis for green beans? Does that work? Can you find the freaking beans?
I have an overhead trellis & it is a bit easier, for sure. & your ladies are absolutely lovely. 😍

@drstratton beautiful garden! Thanks for sharing pics. Cuz if @igorsMistress hasn't said it yet today - we love pics!

Morning all. Spent some time bringing in the veggies today, looks like I'm canning some beans tomorrow. The pile doesn't look that big, but it's more than an oversize gallon ziplock bag. Dilly beans it is I guess.

Beautiful day out, heading out to enjoy it. Have a wonderful Sunday all!

Thank you Sue! I like pictures too...this pic of your harvest is beautiful! You have a nice day also!

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the thread @drstratton and @sourland. What a haul indeed @karenerwin. I see the mountain of tomatillos and think of all the salsa verde I could make with that. Woke up to another cool morning. We got a thunderstorm before midnight. Mother Nature has provided a nice long drink and everything is greening up nicely. I dug up a few potatoes this morning, then picked the blushing tomatoes as well as a nice little haul of green beans, an okra and some hungarian peppers. The melons are so, so tempting @Acre4Me. I pretty much skip the produce section of the grocery store (only go there to buy onions & lettuce now) because I know I'll be tempted by the melons. So yummy, but so off limits. Busy, busy day but not in the garden. Laundry and company for lunch, then start prepping peaches for jam. I might sneak in some tomato sauce this afternoon. The red ripe tomatoes are piling up. Forgot to mention that the chard I planted last Monday, I think it was, it's now coming up. Yay! Have a great day everyone.
