What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Sorry you lost power @Sueby. The rain started around 3 am here and I think it's done for now. We got some strong breezes but not too bad. I was treated to yet another okra bloom this morning. I also picked another okra. One of my bell pepper plants actually has 2 small peppers developing. Maybe I should check the pole beans and jalapeno plants. I'm still trying to get caught up on "chores." I had planned on finally hanging a door onto Randy's bachelor pad coop but I misplaced my cordless drill charger. I really don't like dragging a power cord through a chicken run. I found it this morning and will work on that this afternoon. I'm headed to the grocery store this morning while the ground dries a bit. I've not had too much of a problem with the pullets learning to use the nest boxes @NewBoots. After I put them in with the hens there were a few eggs laid in the dirt, but after a few "sessions" of putting the pullets in the nest box and sitting with them for a few minutes they lay in there consistently now. My problem is getting the pullets to go into the coop at night. I have to carry them in there and put them on the roost every night. Maybe the storm we just had will change their mind. Gotta go for now. Have a great day everyone.

I put in one side, the side water runs off the roof and hits the deck railing then smashes back on to the deck. I want to take advantage of the roof and have a dry spot on the deck before I fully finish this in the next 3 weeks. I plan to finish the other side that has a deck rail after lunch unless I get lazy or caught up in another project. Its not like it needs to be finished this week because we have no more rain this week.

I swear I am crawling under the coop tomorrow morning (way too hot and muggy right now) and see if the sussex are laying eggs under there. Someone unseen was just singing their heads off and I could see everyone but the sussex. The sussex haven't put an egg in a nest box yet but were dropping soft shells on the poop board. They're low on the pecking order and might be too shy to use a nest box. Especially since it means sometimes having someone waiting for the box you are sitting in stand in front of you, stare at you, and scream the egg song in your face. Now I'm wondering what I'll do if they are laying under there. They are the smartest birds in the flock but easily intimidated. How will I get them to use a box? Well it's all conjecture for now. We'll see tomorrow.
I would block their access if they are laying under there, if it's doable! My girls were laying in a spot I didn't want them to and I finally blocked it, now they are all finally laying in the nesting boxes...probably after saying this, I will find one on the coop floor or some other place...

How do you use your comfrey? I feed it to my hens and my rabbits!
