What did you do in the garden today?

I was considering using Miracle Grow on my mother plant peppers because it will encourage growth without blossoms/fruits. Before I buy some I figured I would put it out there what I am doing incase someone just happens to know a better product to achieve strictly vegetative growth in peppers. Regular Miracle Grow will make beautify plants with not fruits. I assume its the same way with Tomatoes too.
I am guessing a pure Nitrogen Fertilizer like 1-0-0 (or any number for Nitrogen) would work.
Have you checked out Espoma products?

Coating to an inch my butt. & it's coming down hard now.

OMG you guys with the snow make me feel so guilty! We went fishing yesterday and while we did layer like crazy (always windy on the lake) it was a lovely day and we caught a mess of nice sized perch. I just finished filleting them and we have a pound of fillets. I'm going to make some fish tacos with half of them for me and fry the rest for DP. Plus we caught 3 that were too small to fillet so I put them and all the eggs (we only caught females) from the filleted ones in the microwave and gave them to the chickens. I removed the heads since perch have those razor like gill covers but they got all the rest. They lost their tiny chicken minds. I found a fish taco recipe that doesn't require me to deep fry the fish so I can't wait.

It's supposed to rain today and it is cloudy but the pressure is going up so I think we'll stay dry. I did receive my peony roots so I still need to get 2 of them potted and dump the tomato vines into the empty compost bin. I have to admit I am going to scrape the bottom of that compost bin with every bit as much energy as I used to scrape the frosting bowl. That is the best stuff!

My girls eat a good deal of oyster shell. They are getting layer feed but lots of scraps and vegetation (and every danged green caterpillar I can find) too so maybe that's why they eat so much of it. We did have some soft shell issues in the beginning so I make sure they do get enough calcium.

Oh and I ordered and just received both net bags and net cloches to put on or over my ripening tomatoes. I'll report on how well they worked to keep away the freaking fruit flies if anyone is interested. Of course I only have a few ripening tomatoes now but still.

Looking really good @igorsMistress! Must be nice to be looking at the cooler temperatures.

Just bagged up not quite 5 pounds of what is probably the last of my indoor ripened tomatoes. These had just been tossed in my harvest tub and pretty carelessly stuck in the garage. I was afraid to bring them in the house and spread them on the dinning table to ripen since we've been having trouble with freaking fruit flies. They were piled on each other and I was pretty sure they would mostly go rotten. They didn't, I lost maybe a half pound out of what was well more than 5 pounds in the tub. There's maybe another 5 pounds or so on the potted tomatoes but given the couple of freezing nights we've had, they don't look too good. I have my various netting thingys so I can afford to give them a try.

Good morning gardeners. Thank you for the pictures @igorsMistress. They warmed me up. Just a blast of winter for now. Apparently we got a total of 5 inches of snow but it was the heavy wet stuff. When it finally stopped I shoveled a bit and let the chickens out. The Buff Orpington's acted like they were born in it. I didn't bother with the snowblower and shoveled the driveway and the front walk by hand. I made applesauce with nearly all the remaining apples. I do have a few more small jars with lids left so I may make some apple cranberry jam before putting the canner away for the year. The temps are a bit chilly right now. It was 18F when I got up this morning. It's currently only 21F, but rain is in the forecast for tomorrow and perhaps a little wet on Election Day, but sunny, warm and dry after that. So it looks like I'll get a window of warm and dry to finish moving the dirt pile and get to the other outdoor chores. That would include the garden and wrapping the chicken run. At least I can't complain about being bored. Sorry about the dahlia @Sueby, but you knew it wouldn't last forever. They will all be back next year just as beautiful as ever. Have a great day everyone.
