Well this morning on my way to the post office I came across a line of bagged leaves in front of some homes, quickly circled back around, and stuffed my car full of them. Lucked out as no plastic/garbage/or dog poop could be found, just all that free compost to layer in my garden beds!

Be careful where you plant horseradish. It spreads like mint around here. We have the wild kind too and that’s probably my most hated weed you just can’t kill it

I have lots planted already. It's one of the things I process and sell.
I don't mind it spreading. And it grows wild here too.
But thank you for the heads up.

Actually it's the oxidation before preservation.
The longer you take to get it out of the air after grinding, the hotter it is. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA!

Meetings online all evening.
Scored big time on an errand. 5 jars of lingonberry jam for $4 each and a bottle of said syrup for $10. WHOOT.
Then bought a gallon of milk that was dated yesterday for $2 but cashier/manager gave it to me free. This years OstKake will be CHEAP! WHOOT.
The rest of errands should have taken 2.5 hours, but took 5. Snow is coming in tomorrow, so between holiday shoppers and impending doom, people were out.
We celebrate Morktiden/Jul, but I do like to put up an ornament tree and gift out the boy a little. (got him a dash cam and stuff for his new truck)
Think I'll get meatballs and mashed potatoes going for the men for supper.
Made Rosettes for gifting to neighbors yesterday. Glad they're out of the house. Addictive things.
Seed Savers catalog came yesterday. I have plenty of seeds sitting here, and a small green house 6x8 I'll put up in the spring and heat up before moving things from the seeding shed. But even that is far off.

Huh, I’d read that it needed cold temps for a good bite so I’ve never tried to grow it but we like it quite a bit. I’ll have to give it a try!

One year, grinding day got rained out and we moved it into the house. Nope, never again. LOL.
All grinding is now done outside.
It's hottest on it's own freshly ground, but if you let it sit for just a bit and THEN add the preserving vinegar it sets as HOT, and I mean HOT.

Checked on the duckies and looked at the rain gauge, we got an inch over more than 12 hours so a good bit but no gulley washers. More garlic sprouts have popped up and I’m pretty sure there’s lettuce growing too. I’m a wee irritated there’s no carrots so I’ll have to throw out some more seed over the weekend.
The ducks are starting to show some color change where they’ll have fawn colored feathers and they are at least twice as tall now as they were at this time last week. This weekend I’m going to give them a deeper and bigger pool and will probably have to give them another water bowl. They are growing so fast they can’t really dunk their bills deep enough in the waterer to wash their nostrils.

Sure.
OstKake is a Scandinavian slice of heaven. It translates as cheese cake, but is not like american smooth fluffy cheese cake. It's like custard and cheesecake had a baby. Many US people use cottage cheese as a substitute, which doesn't work out right. I make my own cheese and then farm eggs (obviously) to make mine. It's served with Lingonberry syrup or jam and whipped cream. It's a special treat food. We have ours at Jul and at Spring Equinox.

Morktiden is a celebration of the longest night. We spend the day without television, turn on the radio, light candles and enjoy the short day and passing of the longest night.

Rosettes are flakey, light, super nice cripsy cookies made my dipping a scalding hot iron shape into thin batter and then back into the oil to finish cooking. They are sprinkled in various things after removing from the oil. Confectioners sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, chocolate, etc. Think light crispy flaky funnel cake cookies.
