What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. My only experience with "maybe" a cross pollination is when I planted summer squash and butternut squash next to each other. The butternut squash didn't do well at all until the summer squash were done and removed. Yesterday was productive. I put another layer of dirt on the potatoes and watered them, of course they grew some more overnight so will need to do it again soon. I mowed the backyard, chicken yard and part of the slope that is safe to do with the push mower. I also did my weekly laundry. Today I may be picking up my new gas grill, that's if they can stuff it into my car. Then it's mowing, trimming the front yard and slope along with some other tasks. My bell pepper seedlings are okay but I'm hoping they will start growing more. It was 48F when I got up this morning so I don't feel terrible about not getting the hot peppers planted in the front yard containers. The corn is still coming up nicely and my bush butternut squash is finally popping through the soil. Everything I direct planted is coming up except for the lima beans. My little rhododendron is starting to bloom and my orange azalea is in full bloom right now. I'm still working on pictures.

I have some plants coming up in my flower beds that I'm not a hundred percent sure I can identify. I'm pretty sure they are from the wildflower seeds that I threw in there last year and there are few dahlias in there as well. Can anybody identify the rest by the leaves? I'm thinking maybe zinnias. This part of the flower bed looks a bit like a weed bed right now.

Two of the Iris I crossed two years ago have finally bloomed. The dog knocked one over, so that one is blooming inside but the other is still out.

I crossed a white and true yellow and got Butter and Sugar.

And crossed a salmon with rusty beard with my Giant Purples.

Still waiting to see if the black bred one blooms this year.

I have often wished there was a database where I could look up a plant and see what it looks like from all stages of growth - sprout, seedling, to fully grown plants. Just so I can identify things and make sure I'm not weeding the wrong thing.

It’s a common myth here in the south but they are different species people also claim they cross with cucumbers, and cantaloupe but that’s another myth. Watermelons only cross with other watermelons and other types of citron melons.
That’s what I came up with when I was looking it up -a myth.

I was cleaning out my big toolbox, and found the envelope full of seeds I had gotten from SeedsNow.com last year. They were hit or miss, but I’m not tossing them yet. Now that I understand the purpose of germinating in a paper towel, I will wait, and toss what I must next year.
Oooh, don’t cha love finding seeds- like finding money left in a coat pocket.

I found $20 in my jacket pocket one Sunday morning, and my mother forced me to put it (plus my normal tithe) in the offering plate. :rant I wasn’t a child, and was in fact helping to support her!
I did get a little excited finding the seeds though. Even though they didn’t all germinate last year, that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t just a bad few seeds.
