What did you do in the garden today?

Busy day outside around here! I used the DR trimmer on brush, weeds, wild rosebush this morning. Ran out of heavy cord twice, so that should tell you what kind of stuff I was cutting!

We (my guys) did touch up.with a roller on the deck sealant. It looks really good for probably about 25 years old. Power washed some outdoor furniture to prep for painting in fun colors later.

I added a hoop structure around my straw bale garden to at least discourage the chickens from messing with it. I got 4 brand new soccer nets at goodwill for $10. This is 2 of them. I'll add one more net and hoop at the end to finish it off.

Taking a break before a little plant moving.

Here's the bunny we picked up who was dumped. Anyone familiar with rabbits who might have a guess on gender or breed?

No idea on breed. Gender you can tell by looking for testicles. It looks big in the pic. There a bunny owners chat thred by that title here somewhere that might have folks to help

I've been reading the book Keeping a Family Cow. Done right, with proper pasture management, it can be absolutely amazing for the health of the grass, soil, and your family. Done right, parasites never get an opportunity to overload the area. It's incredible how it can work extremely well small to medium scale, but once you turn it into a big thing... not so much. We drove by dairy farms on the move down to Texas, and to see all those cows crammed into so little space with not a blade of grass in sight... dang. Makes you rethink the grocery store milk, makes you realize why the vast majority of commercially produced milk HAS to be pasteurized, makes you really question how did we get here?
You drove past feedlots for meat cattle. They're finishing stations before the meat is walked off to market.
Their feed/rations are strictly regulated as to put on a healthy finishing weight and fat load before butchering.

Trust me we treat our cattle with a great deal of care, that's our money in the bank and our future, and we do every step as carefully and as financially and humanely as possible.

Potato question. Mine have sprouted like crazy! The bags weren't full of soil more than a few inches past the most shallow chits, and I have just been adding straw that I had my students gather from our HS senior prank (5 large yard bags) plus a little soil sprinkled in thinking it would cover them and slowly compost. Is that okay or should it just be dirt? They certainly look happy enough. Also, can I put the bags on a wet area and let water wick up the soil/straw or might they rot? I don't think it will stay very wet when the rains slow down.

Restaurant? What is this rest-aurant thing you speak of? LOL.

Prices here have become idiotic. My property assessment just jumped $60,000 in ONE year! And I haven't DONE anything, just the covid panic buying driving up market prices. Insane. Another $2200 in taxes a year!
Ba ha ha :gigyes have to drive to seek those out. ! And prices are crazy someone told me there are only 80 houses for sale in Lincoln And 2000 realtors! It's crazy we have Colo folks driving prices up out here. How's garden doing?

Not unless they're butchering Holstein cows at places with "dairy farm" signs out front, lol. But no, these are the giant commercial operations that, frankly, suck.

There's not many entries so it would be great if more people would add some
I plan to enter, but everything is small right now. Good thing the contest goes to the end of the month. I want to borrow DHs camera, but I'll have to wait until plants are bigger, and he gets back from vacation.

Garden is gong. I need to go out and water, but my allergies are so bad breathing is magical at the moment. Muscles ache from coughing up cottonwood trees. Coughed one up this morning complete with bird's nest with chicks in it.

We had people move into our area from western nebraska and paid 680,000 for a house worth only 450,000 at best. Two more people in the area saw that profit margin and tried the same thing and got it too. OMG. INSANITY. MUST have been cash sales. HAD to have been cash sales.

And it's 800 homes for sale, but yes. That's not a lot for such a size city.

Well, they're supposed to suck. That's how they get the milk out.

Ya, grain and silage milk farms. BTDT.
I can soooo tell the difference in my grass fed cow's milk.
It is an acquired taste.
