So talked to the Ortho surgeon today . Knee surgery December 6 . Go home same day .

I have working toward having my own seeds to plant (or seed potatoes, or whatever) for a couple years now. My tomato seed last year germinated the best of any I had.

I read this somewhere:

Those who control the food, control the population.
Those who control the seed, control the food.

With chickens, I don't need to worry about fertilizer. But what's going on.... it's scary.

There is some truth in that for sure! I don't need to worry about my own fertilizer, but I certainly can't grow enough vegetables here to sustain us so I'm dependent on those with the seed! Sure do wish I could - would be fantastic to be self sufficient. Maybe when I retire. (I say that about everything, lol)

Plus buying starts in the spring is soooo much easier than making my own. I did a little of that this past year & I hated it. Maybe when I retire.

When they did the ACL I went home after one night but had me up the night of ... That was like 10 years ago

Hello gardeners
Got home from second eye surgery a while ago and found my garlic had arrived. This batch came from Territorial Seed and it looks fantastic! The heads are much bigger and look much fresher than the batch I got from Southern Exposure. Plus, we can smell it and none of the heads are damaged. I’ll take those as good signs! Gotta go, my secretary has delayed her Minecraft game to help me out for a bit and her friend is waiting for her. Have a great day all!

My tree protector tubes arrived and I just finished putting them around the 12 seedling trees .

Kept digging out dahlias and got a lot of high protein treats for chickens. I didn't know so many grubs (I believe they are from Japanese beetles) can hide inside the root systems of dahlias. Well, a happy day for chickens anyway.

Good! Give those ugly, destructive grubs to your chickens, and tell them I said, Bon Appetit!

When I do garden prep in the spring, I have my grub jar at my side. I dig up clumps of grass, weeds, whatever, and any grubs go in the jar. Actually, I do that most of the summer too. I just find more when I'm digging out the edges in the spring.

Between the grubs and the beetles I gathered this last summer, I figure I've knocked the Japanese Beetle population for 2024 down a peg or two. The grubs take 3 years to mature, I read.

No gardening today. Was up all night with the aurora.
Dehydrating marshmallows atm.
I did get the new clothesline installed, post dug and concreted in. It will be warm enough tomorrow to paint the post 'go away green'.
