What did you do in the garden today?

We just hit our high for the day, 8. LOL. Windchill has been -20 to -30 all day.
Gardening consisted of watering the bulb in the kitchen on the window ledge.

My favorite banana, before I developed an allergy to them, was blue java or goldfinger.
My son ate so many goldfinger bananas as a toddler, I'm surprised he doesn't swing from a tree.

I'm in the mood to plan my garden, but every time I try to get into it, it is really difficult to keep that mood. It's the sorting through all of the info on the seed packets that throws me off, I think. I have a LOT of seeds, and a lot of them (at least 1/3) are from 2017 or earlier. Maybe I'll go through them and test their germination to make a decision about what to keep and what to get rid of. OH! And that would free me up to buy more because let's say I don't have any viable peas or tomatoes or watermelon...

My ratio of seed acquiring to actual gardening all these years has leaned more on the side of acquiring. I'm probably on my way to being a seed hoarder... most of the seeds were free, but I hate the idea of them having been wasted just sitting in a box waiting for me to actually have a garden...

I also want to grow everything I have, so space might be hard..... I blame the 8 squash varieties and 1-3 watermelons... and the fact that I want a lot of tomatoes.

Testing the germination should be my first step, so I'm not dedicating garden space to seeds that aren't even viable.

Goodness, it's really easy to just ramble on and on here! :ducIt helps me get my thoughts organized, though.

Did some more weeding today. Planning to get a few seeds soon. I am in zone 9 and am planning to plant some lettuce, spinach, carrots, and maybe some broccolli or cauliflower. Any other recommendations on what to plant? I am very new to planting edible foods. Thanks!
There is probably a guide from your county master gardeners about what to plant when, if you look that up. Otherwise, this says SoCal but I know he is in zone 9. https://gregalder.com/yardposts/what-to-do-in-a-southern-california-garden-in-january/

I would add radishes to his list.

Cold and wind advisory starting at 6 pm . Hey on the plus side I haven't seen any skeeters or snakes in quite some time . I continue to make small gains every day in my recovery . I was able to get the bike pedals all the way around at therapy . I can now bend the new knee enough to go down the stairs using both knees like normal . Just barely . Knee bend at 106 degrees yesterday . I can walk with out the cane at times . Tuesday I started the chainsaw and cut up a limb near my woodpile location . Yeah it is mostly gone .
Wow, you’re making fantastic progress! Happy to know it.
