What did you do in the garden today?

So back goes the canner. :rant An hour & a half & it wouldn't come up to pressure (I tried twice). Called Nesco & did some troubleshooting & they said it looks like a mechanical issue where it won't recognize the pressure. Weird because it cooked my cheesecake just fine. :idunno They are sending out a new one today & I don't need to send this one back.
I have a Nesco electric pressure cooker/multi cooker thing, have had it for many years and I use it a lot. It's starting to creek a bit these day so I'm thinking of replacing it. Is yours a multi cooker? Did you post a link to the one you got?

Dont chuck it! It could be something simple to fix. Or if not it seems like it still functions as a cooker!

I went outside on my break, it's beautiful out there! Birds were duking it out in the oleanders next door, then flew into our yard and finished up under the lemon tree. I also see hummingbirds checking out the aloes waiting for the flowers to open :love Break is over, have a great day all!
I can relate.... It's a beautiful day here too. I let the chickens out to free range. I want to go outside so badly but I have too much work to do... :hmm

I ended up with the Nesco 9.5 quart smart canner - it is also a pressure cooker/instant pot thing. You can water bath can in it too. It only does 4 quarts at a time, but that's ok with me for now.

I got it at Wayfair, they had the best price at the time - it's gone up a bit now, but still cheaper than most places. Pretty happy with their replacement policy though, no packing it back up. They say if whatever you are returning still works consider donating it. Thought that was cool.

I haven't chucked it yet! This weekend I will see if I can get it to do something. I may try the gasket off of the new one & see if that was the issue. I suggested to the agent on the phone that maybe I just needed a new gasket, but she didn't have much to say about that.

Super nice out here too. 45 mins till freedom (work ends) & I get to go out & play in the garden! I want to bring up the plexiglass bed covers & start thinking about getting some green beans in the ground. I'm wearing closed toe shoes & using the tractor this year. :lau Not doing that again.

ETA: I remember seeing a thing on like 60 minutes or something about how most things returned end up in a warehouse & never actually go anywhere or get fixed or anything - a complete waste so that's why I thought Wayfairs policy was cool...

It’s been raining all day here in Utah so I thought I’d run to the nursery to see what they got. I’ve been wanting to try potatoes in the garden so I grabbed some of those. Red onions are a must for our salsa stash and then I thought I’d give garlic a try again.

So the potatoes are just potatoes ..... 🤣 I had no clue and was confused when I got home and opened the box (I’m a new gardener, this is only my 3rd year). So it says to leave them on the window sill for 2 weeks and then cut them up and plant?

I did garlic in the spring one other time and it all died or never grew. I just can’t get my shiz together to plant in fall so I’m gonna try garlic in the spring again. Any spring garlic tips?

Water it. Spring planted garlic NEEEDS to be watered thoroughly.

I have never grown potatoes so I can't help there but many here do. I always start my garlic in the fall. But your garlic will be fine, maybe not as big but that's ok. Just save the biggest cloves & plant them this fall. I mulch my beds pretty thick, pull it back when they start to pop up from the ground & side dress some high nitrogen fertilizer when they start to swell. I find garlic pretty simple to grow, you'll be fine. If planting hard neck, cut the scapes when they curl around once & fry them up - delish! I personally prefer soft neck as it stores a bit longer but I do grow both. I like Joe Gardener: https://joegardener.com/grow-garlic/
