What did you do in the garden today?

another botanist!

The docks and sorrels, genus Rumex L., are a genus of about 200 species of annual, biennial and perennial herbs in the buckwheat family Polygonaceae.
Yes . I found that while searching . I will have to post a picture of the one I use . No wonder I could never get the correct ID .

So my back is heeling good after some issues, and I did some planting today finally ! Not a lot but still , got my hands in the dirt and it was heaven.
My verbena plant went outside, rue, lovage (oh lovely lovage how I love it taste ! cross between parsley and celery) , celery went to the ground, and basil (hope it won't die- still colder at night).
Need more strawberry plants. And still spying on my turnips (cute little turnips). Beets are coming out ! mmmmm yummy beets.

Was a lazy weekend in the garden for us. Weeded (daily task) and watered. Added some peat as a top dressing. Got one little unidentified pepper off of a plant. Disappointed. Not much flavor. No heat even though it looked like a long thai pepper. WAITED for tomatoes and peppers to grow.

For cold and flu I made a special mixes of herbs. I have mint, salvia, catmint, lemon balm, hawthorn, chamomile, hops, rosemary, basil, anise, lovage, and many more. My whole garden is full of goodies. What I can grow I buy , like elder flowers or linden flowers.
Glad to see others going this direction......I'll have someone to follow.......books are great but hands on knowledge is better.

Quote: LOL....Yup, lo.ve the difficult to kill plants , though I have to admit I have managed to kill off a number of my mints. THen the chickens took out the rest. Grrrr ... Had a variety that is only known within my family.. so I asked mother for another batch of started and planted them ALLLLLL OVER to outwhit those chickens!!!

Top worked this wild flowering pear over to fruiting pear last year . Up to 6 foot of growth . Boards are support for new growth . Added 1 new graft .
One of the graft unions . I used sprouts to graft onto after I cut back the tree .
NICE WORK!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is horseradish?

I was hoping you would get a clear answer on the ID of this plant as in a couple monthes these will show up here too. Have always wondered what they are. I dont see weeds anymore.....just another possibly useful plant.

Glad your back is healing up......

Met a fellow gardener today... apologized for my dirty hands as we shook hands.... he chuckled as his were a bit dirty too.

Found a poor selection of blue potatos at Tractor supply....4-5 tiny seed potatos for 5.99 so these will be planted for getting seed potatos for NEXT year.

Bought azamite at WOrms Way yesterday...I choked at the $44 for 44 pounds.... I was expecting something closer to the online prices for another company of $23 for 44lbs, so bought only one bag with my $46 dollar allotment.

Would like to get peas i into my community garden plot but another gardener said late april is too early......: heeee, good thing this fellow didnt hear my conversation with another gardener a few minutes earlier as his peas are already in!! Goes to show the opinions vary widely. lol

I left these out during freezes. Peas can take it.

Quote: lol.... My first batch grew well in dishpans and unfortunately the snows knocked over the 3 inch starts and bent the stems. Didnt kill them though. Saw their future was doomed so gave them to the chickens an d ducks who cleaned the dishpans of EVERY morsel. No waste.

THis tray looks delightful....... heard the grey dwarf is a great sprouting pea.
