What did you do in the garden today?

I really want one of those! I love the purple ones.... I hope to redo my shade garden later this fall. Do they need partial sun or are they okay in full shade?

They say full shade is tolerated. I purchased from bluestone perennials. They had a good selection there -I just bought a combo pack of 3 types. Everything I’ve ever ordered from bluestone perennials has arrived in great shape/done well.

I decided to test the pH of my blueberries before packing up the meter. They are in wine barrels and slightly smaller resin barrels, with soil that is a mix of peat and pumice. It varies quite a bit (probably depending on where I put sulfur in years past) but almost all had a spot below 7, some as low at 5. They are all doing well and are covered in berries right now.

Potted up all my tomato starts. Somehow I mixed up the varieties, but the general types were in the same pot. (Paste, heirloom slicers, cherry/pear snackers). I have about 50 that are good, so I’m sure I’ll be giving a few away as I only have room for 12 per row & 3 rows designated for them.

No rain yet today. Every time I check it says starting in 1 hour, check again says 1 more hour…been doing that all day! 😂

Much happier than getting torrential downpours. I’m sure they are on their way eventually.

Hope everyone is doing ok!

Need to trim back my catnip bush, it's like 3 feet diameter now! Whoops lol
The peppermint survived the winter and has taken over the second raised bed. May just let that bed be the mint bed rather than try to fight it.

I extended the flower bed on the side of my house and finally got some purple irises and a fancy daylily planted. The hostas that were already there are all sprung up now. The one that came up first is getting enormous! May end up having to split it this year, or next.

The baby peach tree is growing a zillion leaves I wouldn't be surprised if it tries to flower. I'll trim any flowers off I see though, it's definitely not big enough to grow fruit yet. And all three of my little apple trees have leaves, hurray! I find it fascinating that each variety has noticeably different leaves. Which makes sense but I never stopped to think about it before!

Trimmed the yella seed leaves off the squash.. put a pinch of rabbit poop on everything before the rain/tornadoes.. flip a coin.. staked down the little hoophouse with the chicks in it.. doctored some farr ants.. and back on the porch now.. wind is shifting now
"doctored some farr ants..."

I grew up in Wichita Falls, and this sounded like home. :p

We moved into our house, Christmas of '20. In preparation for getting chooks, I planted:

Rosemary,
two types each of sage, mint, oregano, and thyme
lemon balm,
yarrow,
lavender,
comfrey,
dill,
fennel,
three Martha Gonzales rose cuttings, (dragged this rose through three moves now.)
and sweet woodruff. (which I'll have to move--holy cow that stuff spreads!)

We have dandelions everywhere, and some interesting forest weeds--tons of yarrow.
Our water is expensive (community well), so the only real splurges are the iris gardens and a Lady Banks rose. Oh, and a jackmanii clematis. And grape hyacinth. And red salvia. Oh, and Hollyhocks. And Virginia Creeper on the back fence. And...if I can swing it, a forsythia. (Some people have chicken math, I have plant math.)

I'm glad I planted the herb garden last year, because this year it'll get going quick. We always said;"First year, it sleeps. Second year, it creeps. Third year, it leaps!" We're between a creep and a leap. :)

Neighbor across the road called. They lost the siding, older cedar shakes, to hail, and they took a lightning strike. So anything that was plugged in got smoked. They just need to pay the deductible, but ugh.
Other neighbor had their steel barn struck, loud but no damage.
I found someone's patio cushion, or rather the alpacas did, no idea who it belongs to.
No damage to green or hoop house, roof or siding.

Weather is awe inspiring, but sometimes it sucks. Glad you did okay.
