What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning all. Today is the really hot day, then it's back to more normal temperatures. It cooled down enough last night to open the windows and turn the AC off. The garden made it through the first hot day pretty good. I'll be watering everything once I finish my coffee. Most of my potato plants have broken through the soil and there are a few cracks where I know there are a few planted. The okra seed I planted is coming up so I've planted enough to get a bigger crop this year. The little okra starts I planted are doing well too. The lettuce and the endive is growing well so I should not have to buy any more salad greens until September or October. I just bought a bag of "young kale" and was very disappointed it was tough like old kale. I had some with a salad last night and was sad that it wasn't tender. Oh well, my first planting of kale is doing well and I'll be planting more in a few days. The pole beans are struggling to start up, but they are breaking through the dirt now. I only planted one 8 foot row because I still have a couple of bags in the freezer from last years harvest.

One of the primary things that preppers prep is Peanut Butter. So, I'm watching to see how many other prepper items are recalled.
So here I sit with 3 large containers of Jif peanut butter that are now all recalled.
I labeled it and will use it for cooking. We ate 2 whole containers of it already and didn't die or get sick.
Oh and just to knock your socks off. We spend $350-$400 a week in groceries.
Me, my husband and our 3 teenage sons. We eat every meal at home.
We went out to eat at a cafe over a month ago as a treat. My husband and I got fish, my boys got burgers and fries. $75 bill with tip.

So you think this is an indirect hit toward preppers….I become more of a conspiracy theorist every day. Weird that all of the issues (AI, supply chain, recalls, gas prices, etc) are all occurring at the same time. It’s maddening. We are almost out of venison from last year too. Luckily we have a bunch of frozen chickens and chicken parts. 🙄

Was at 36 for two hours last night. Everything in the hoophouse is fine. The stuff I brought in from the greenhouse is obviously fine.
The tender leaves on the giant grape vine have looked better, but it's been worse.

My insides are singing loudly this morning. Two peanut butter sandwiches and an english muffin in the past three days, anyone want to place bets?!
5 of my jars in storage are not recalled
The one I was using was. Grumble, grumble stomp stomp.

Grubbed out a tree that was plated by the previous home owner, too close to the house yesterday, I forgot how much "fun" it is.

So one of my friends told me she had to go to 3 different places to find cherry tomato starts this year. Has anyone else had trouble finding starts? I started everything from seed (except a few extra cabbages my neighbor didn’t have room for and gave me her extra starts). I only buy marigold & petunia starts, limited room so I start mostly things we will eat, and if they don’t have them I can survive without for a year.
