What did you do in the garden today?

Too much rain to work on the Duck run. I need to pull an electrical wire from inside the garage to get some power out to the Ducks.
All this rain, just makes me want to nap. it doesn't count as a nap if your up at 3 am and then go back to bed at 6am for a couple hours.

They have expanded the peanut butter recall. So recheck your jars. Now ALL six jars of mine are in the recall as well as some snack foods I had around.
DS has had people calling in sick all week due to their kids having eaten, and gotten ill.
I'm annoyed that Jif isn't asking if we got sick from their product, just asking if we have it for coupons for more jif later.
I think the illness is more widespread than they want to admit.

Wow! This is a big deal- this covers a pretty lengthy timeframe, it seems. Can’t just be pinned on any one person, but someone is going to take a fall I’ll guess. There’s a fair few people pointing fingers at this very moment, I’m sure.

I keep forgetting to mention that I am more than happy to have ants in my gardens. Apparently they eat aphids. Not a bad thing. Also @CNJ, I would be a little concerned at adding baking soda to your tomato plants. It is pretty high in sodium and may likely have a detrimental effect on your plants. JMHO.
Ladybugs eat aphids, not ants

I grew up not far from the Peter Pan plant in Sylvester GA. Years ago, 15? 20? I don't know now... But anyway they shut the whole dang thing down because of contaminated peanut butter. I think it was salmonella? Turned out the plant was filthy from top to bottom and the roof was leaking. That town is tiny. It almost shut the whole dang town down while they brought in crews to scrub and repair and replace, etc. I hear they were fined mightily for it. Plant is closed/may be closing? I don't know. It's hard to get info from tiny towns even with the internet.

Made DH a salad from the mustard greens and kale. Hehe, he said it hit like wasabi and was sniffling. Funny thing... the three year old begged to eat it. Loved it! We were flabbergasted. Child won't usually touch green stuff and then sat down and shoveled that salad down!

Caterpillars are competing with me for anything green out there. I blast them off with the hose, need to grab them and chuck them to the chickens when I get a minute though. The garden is still sad, in a word. Don't have room in the budget this minute for shade cloth, so I'll have to see what I can do and just keep hoping I get to eat more than carrots and some kale. I'm not touching those mustard greens! Hahaha!

Cool and rainy today, then the heat (by Michigan standards, anyway) moves in. I'm taking advantage of the coolness to get some baking done. It's incredibly humid though, so I won't be opening the doors and windows.

Soon I will be hilling up some of the first potatoes I planted. I dug the holes extra deep (1 foot +), and a few of the plants are poking their heads up over the rim. The cilantro in the asparagus patch is going crazy. I think I'm going to pull a bunch out and give it to the chickens. I might plant some of the starts later today too.

The plan is dinner out tonight. Yesterday was our 33rd anniversary. DH went to Chicago to do an install for work, and was too tired by the time he got back.
