What did you do in the garden today?

So a dry heat is so much better….but 110F is still so HOT!! We went to Vegas in June 2017 - travelled with one kid, so we were sightseers and not gamblers. We had a tour scheduled each day, but cancelled the one on scooters/mopeds for several hours bc they were breaking records with 114F + temps - we felt it would be tough on us but we didn’t want the kid to experience anything like that for hours on a moped. We kept a tour going to a natural area- ride in a van here and there, get out for 20 min at a time to see this and that. SOOOO Hot!!! iPhone wouldn’t work for pics unless we were in the shade bc it was too hot. When we showed pics to friends when we were back, they all laughed bc we had hats, sunglasses, and long sleeve shirts and long pants (light, sun block type fabric) - but we actually stayed reasonably comfortable bc the sun was not baking our skin!! That tour had about 9 people…guide brought an entire cooler of iced bottled water. It was gone by the end and we had all bought large cold bevs at one stop too. Great trip, but sooo Hot!!! So, I can understand the at your extended forecast.

At some point too damn hot is too damn hot lol. It sucks the life out of everything! The worst part is the heat island though, no cooling at night after a while.

I have this area here full sun all across the front of the chicken run that I have layered up for composting.
My question is do you think I could move the cinderblocks down into the ground closer and seed some sunflowers to go all the way across there so the chickens have more shade than just the run roofing?

Oh, I don't blame you at all. We'd have done the same thing. It's just sad because a living thing has to eat so you can't really blame him/her. It's just sad... My DH thinks I'm crazy but I insisted we rehome a baby possum we caught in our barn to a state park that was 6 miles away. At least it gave the little bugger a fighting chance.

I do understand and don't judge, but it's just sad to me.

I caved and mowed. It was right on the edge of needing it or not needing it. But with1.5 inches of rain coming this weekend and then on and off all week, I don't want to play raincloud roulette. So it's done for at least another week. $$$$$$$ gas

Oh well.
========Cooling off then I'll water the hoophouse and replace that sheboygan tomato plant.

Circle of life, but I'm not running a buffet.

I know....and I understand options are limited in dealing with pests most of the time. But animal's desperation to simply LIVE hits me square in the gut. It's a visceral feeling that I simply can't ignore. Didn't used to feel that way....but I do now. Call it a healthy respect for life. I will do whatever I can to avoid killing something. Trap it. Move it. Scare it off with fireworks. Whatever I can. But I *DO* understand sometimes there are no other options. I caught a snake in the duck coop a few days ago. King snake. Not poisonous. But I was concerned that it would end up killing & eating some baby chicks that are living in that coop with their mama. I tried really hard to get it to go elsewhere but it INSISTED on going back to the coop....so I didn't have much choice. Had to kill it. I'll be repentant over that one for days still.....

I totally understand, if I can move to a new location I will. But if it is hurting my animals and has gotten through all the safety things we do to keep it out. Well at that point it’s on them. It’s hard to do so my husband takes care of it if I can’t get it to stop. I am not around when he does it because it’s just upsetting. They can carry some pretty nasty things. Plus fleas, ticks and mites.

Gorgeous roses!
I miss mine! We had problems with the "witches broom" or whatever that takes over the rose bushes so after years of fighting with it gave up.

You should try again, they have all kinds now that don’t require a lot of work. I just spray mine a couple of times a year. Plus dead head them when I have time.

Does anyone have a Crimson Glory rose? That was my Grandma's favorite. It's my favorite too, though I don't have any roses at all. I love it for 3 reasons: Its gorgeous red color, its beautiful fragrance, and because it was my Grandma's favorite.

I think I saw them at TS. They are pretty common rose.
