What did you do in the garden today?

What's the best way to cook sweet potatoes? I hardly ever eat them........
Boiled or baked. Sweet potato casserole is very common, although it is usually sugared up too much for my taste. They can be sliced and fried as chips, or made into French fries (but usually more moist than a regular potato French fry). It is also used in desserts and in the southern US, sweet potato pie is common.

Finally had this past weekend off, after 12 10-hour work days in a row, in which we somehow kept up with keeping the animals alive, our clothes somewhat clean, and ourselves marginally fed, thanks to good spinach and lettuce from the garden and crazy recipes like peanut-butter and jelly tortillas.
Too much to catch up with - so of course most of the weekend was rainy.
In between raindrops, Mr. Dog did a rough mowing on the rider - not pretty, but better than a hayfield/weedfield in our front yard that's adjacent to suburbia.
I managed to fill with compost the last two raised beds as well as a middle section that will be raised beds next year. Friday I planted out my luffa and tomatoes, and yesterday I direct-seeded zucchini, yellow squash and pole beans.
Unfortunately, my beautiful tomato and luffa starts looked really droopy yesterday after planting out, so I shaded them - today the luffas looked like they were recovering, but a few of the tomatoes look like they might not recover. Next weekend I have stuff to buy at the feed store, and by then I'll know if I need to buy replacement tomato starts.
At least my next wave of seedlings is sprouting, eggplants and melons.

A little over a month ago I SECRETLY picked up two Welsummer pullets at the feed store because it's a breed I really wanted to add to my flock. Well, I'm pretty sure one of them is actually a cockerel.... And the 2nd one died today in a tragic accident. I had a 16" square piece of particle board on top of the brooder to keep chickens from pooping in the chicks' waterer. I noticed the board was knocked off and laying on the floor. I picked it up and found my Welsummer chick squished underneath. 😭😭😭😭 She was big enough that I don't think the board alone would have killed her so I'm speculating that one of the adults must have jumped on it after it was knocked off and the combined weight likely killed her. I'm so bummed.
Sorry TJ!
