What did you do in the garden today?

I don't think you want ANY dog with a high prey drive around your chickens .... unless you want to get rid of the chickens.
I would have to say it depends on the control you have over the dog. I had a dog with a high prey drive that would leave the chickens alone. Not that I didn’t keep a close eye on her though.

Good afternoon gardeners. Busy day today. I picked about 2 pounds of salad greens and kale this morning. Got it all washed and bagged then delivered to DD. I have plenty in my fridge and may freeze the kale. Still lots more of that, lettuces and chard coming up. The potatoes are blooming now. I finished my garden hod but didn’t have time to stain it. It really came in handy when I was picking produce. Just finished mowing the front yard and the chicken yard. Trimming and the backyard can wait for another day. One of my SM plants snuck a small tomato by me. It’s way too small right now so I picked it off. Knock on wood, but other than a few random biting flies, no garden pests yet. Fingers crossed. The summer squash and cucumbers are a little slow. I’m hoping they start growing a bit faster soon. Not much else happening other than my Foodsaver vacuum sealer was delivered. Just in time I guess. As promised @NewBoots here’s my hod. It still needs some tweaking, sanding and staining but it came in handy this morning.

The raspberry beds are finished! These will go between the fruit trees along the driveway to the barn. They are 6’x4’. Plenty of space between the trees. Just need dirt. We have the plants to put in them already.

Then I removed and scrubbed the clear panels on the chicken pen. These panels work well to block the rain. The White Plymouth Rocks inside are 8 weeks old. Mostly male as ordered. We have been feeding them 22% meat chicken feed, so they are a nice size for 8 weeks, and we plan to butcher in about 8 more weeks.

Then, spouse made shade panels that can slide in when needed. They are made from cedar fence posts he found on clearance a year or two ago. They look nice!

Today, I finally got to taste the root of my Galanga Thai ginger plant. I made a Thai soup called, "Tom Sum Gai", but substituted thin slices of roasted pork shoulder steaks for the meat. The Galanga taste similar to ginger, but not as spicy. It adds a subtle flavor to the broth.
