What did you do in the garden today?

hydrangea that is finally blooming
I'm so jealous!
Bought mine last year and it did amazing, bloomed gorgeous and everything! Then I barely trimmed it cuz I researched that it blooms on old wood.
And not a single bloom this year! It has grown and filled out but no blooms. 🤨
According to the heat index, it feels like 108 degrees outside. Breeze is blowing but it's hot... So welcome to today's convection oven experience!
Hot and humid out there.
Not entirely sure I agree with the “feels like 120F” but it’s pretty hot and oppressive
I'm doing nothing. It's 103, 19% humidity
Yall ain't alone! It's nearly unbearable out there! I've never had sweat pour off my arms and legs like this when just stepping outside!!!

. I wonder if the okra will put on more fruit once the temps come down a bit? Anybody know?
Idk...I planted mine later cuz of lack of space in my raised beds. I hadn't seen any flowers on mine yet...but they are a good 3' tall tucked in behind the tomatoes.

It's disgusting out there. My poor birds are being treated for worms on top of it. I put a fan in the coop window yesterday & gave them a couple handfuls of frozen corn. Tomorrow I'll give them some vitamins.

Hoping for big storms tomorrow so I don't have to water! It's too hot to even go out there, I'd rather let everything die. :gig

This same thought crosses my mind almost every day for the past few weeks... But then I think about all the money I've spent on things BESIDES the annual garden (blueberries, raspberries, peach trees, asparagus, etc) and I realize that I don't want THOSE things to die so if I'm going to brave the heat to water them I might as well do everything

Long post alert!

I have been working very hard in the garden this week. If you want to know how far behind I got on weeding, I found a wild ground cherry plant growing in there today. I put up an archway I had forgotten about, and will be training the pumpkin vines over it into the bed with the honeydews because they aren't growing much and that bed is mostly empty (except for all the weeds). I am going to control where the watermelon vines go better than I have been. I used the gate pieces of the arch to make a trellis for the cucumbers to climb into that empty bed, too. I did see some cucumber flowers today!

I laid down a bunch of cardboard to try to kill the weeds in the pathways. Then, I won't almost step on my cilantro or melon and squash vines!

Guess who forgot to succession plant her lettuce and is now hoping they don't bolt before she can eat a lot of salads. They sure are pretty, though.

Still haven't pruned or trellised the last row of tomatoes, but I'll get to it once my throat is healed more. And I'll wear better pollen protection this time.

Did research on the snake living in there, and we are pretty sure it's a Kirtland's snake. We won't know for sure unless we get a look at it's belly (would be a brick red), we named it Rusty. Still trying to kill the mole, but it waits until I move the trap to redig it's tunnels. :barnie I think it's living under my strawberry and asparagus bed.

Asparagus (very hard to see, but on the fence side of the bed) and Earliglow strawberries:

Tomatoes (was a "rainbow mix", so 5 possible types), 1 goats horn pepper, yellow summer squash, bell peppers, pickling cukes, and lemon cukes:

Lab test for the dog is positive for Lyme disease . He is doing good with the last medication . Pickup new medication tomorrow .
I'm sorry to hear that, I hope he does well. I had a dog with Lyme & it didn't turn out well for her, but I will say that is NOT the rule & they have come a long way in treating in since Jazzy had it. & 🤞 for him.
Hauled my sluggish tired, pj clad body out into the pollen and smoke tonight with my trusty blacklight and went worm hunting.
Found him! Mr Neon green couldn't hide. Bwahahahaaaa ha!View attachment 3194111
:yesss:
not gardening but had for breakfast an omelette with bell peppers - my produce.
Don't you love that! I was frustrated with the garden yesterday but then I had squash boats for dinner with garlic & onions, a side of green beans & a salad with cukes - all from the garden - & I was much less frustrated. It's a good feeling to feed yourself.

Did my morning walk thru/pollination & there were a bunch of cucumber beetles on top of the netting, trying to get in. Not today you little %@$(@&#!

Have to go back out because I forgot the phone to take pics of the mystery tomato. Just waiting for the electrolytes/vits for the birds to freeze.
