What did you do in the garden today?

Sure you can. Lots of outdoor pallet projects look better with an aged board. As long as the wood is solid, they are still great for projects. If you don't like the color of the pallet wood, you could plane or sand the surface, then stain or paint the wood. At the moment, I'm just more into the building of useful items and not caring too much about the looks, meaning I'm not spending any time on sanding, planning, staining or painting. Don't need those extra efforts on the outdoor projects I am building.

thanks. I don't mind the looks either.

I’ve been off the internet a while. Nothing much happening in the garden. I did see a cartoon I wanted to share. I don’t know what the PC police are allowing, but I think you guys will enjoy it, so here goes.

great therapy without harming anyone!

I have heard that in japan big companies make a rubber statue of their director/manager and place it in a separate room. when employees get mad with him they just go to that room and punch the rubber statue. I don't know if this is true but the idea is good.

I've taken an internet break for my garden lol....seems my small speck of universe revolves around my giant pumpkins at the moment (when I'm not mom, wife or chef lol). I think we are turning into a rainforest down here...it was hot and dry for about 2 weeks and now we get rain for hours everyday. Dunno how my chickens feel about it but my pumpkins and sweet potatoes are excited 🤣. Goal this month is to clean out my raised beds of weeds and layer them up for autumn/winter prep. I believe this year I could probably grow cabbage, broccoli and carrots until November possibly later, also I think I could get away with lettuce on the porch for quite a few months. I'm debating adding a trellised box for peas 🤔 it's quite a bit of work, but slowly falling temps mean I'm more able to work since I won't overheat. I think I missed my second crop of potatoes window but I'm going to over winter garlic...so there is tons to do! It's enjoyable work though and I can't really complain. I am sad blueberry season is over 😢 but figs are ripening on the tree!

Did I miss something bout the mulch convo? I need to know all things mulch! Lol
I dunno, Wolfie said mulch is your friend. I believe what you use to mulch depends on your situation. I used straw in my shade garden, a thick layer of it, and I’m pretty sure I lost most of the stuff in there to fungus. It either came from the straw, or it developed in there; I think it was a combo of the straw and the heat and the soil not being to breathe and too much moisture was trapped. I’m putting all of it in the bulk trash and starting over.

It works great out in the yard where the chickens can turn it over though.

I hear ya...I used straw to mulch my garden after seeding and heavy rains were coming...way back when we got rain LOL.
And it grew straw or whatever is in straw better than it grew the seeds I sowed lol!

I just saw @Wolfie2 post and couldnt see anything more on it so was makin sure i didnt miss more details.
thank u!

Heading for 105 today, and it won't be a dry heat either.
Tomato plants are so large and arcing in the hoop house you cannot simply walk in the door anymore, you have to bend down below 4 feet and slide in and under.
The plastic cover is failing. It was supposed to be UV stable, it is not. So far it's only failing near the bottom, which is odd. I might rebuild with 2x4 and windows instead of plastics.

For your morning giggle.

Episode two had me laughing so hard at murder hornets that I went into a half hour coughing fit.
