What did you do in the garden today?

I picked my first zucchini today. It ended up being a little weird shaped but it’ll still be good lol. I’m going to make zucchini bread out of it. View attachment 3215212
That'd a good one!
I still have nothing but male flowers on all 3 of my plants...thinkin bout just pulling em up cuz they are so big and after cutting few leaves that yellowed off after heavy rains they are all laying weird...disappointing.
But I got one more squash today off the first ones I planted! The squash bugs didn't mess with this one in the container like they did the ground plants!

Finally got out to the garden. I pulled a couple zucchini plants, some green beans that looked terrible, and all of the Lieutenant broccoli (which was STILL producing...). I must have killed 40 squash bugs that were congregating on the outside of the hoop house. I know there's a bunch inside too... I just wish I knew how they were getting inside!

Anyway, I sowed some seeds too - spaghetti squash, sugar pie pumpkin, desert king watermelon, more green beans, cauliflower, and more carrots.

Supposed to rain tomorrow and it was dark so I didn't get to water the seeds. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I will water them in the evening.

I still need to sow more carrots, broccoli, and lettuce but I'll wait a few more weeks to do that.

I realize that the pumpkin and watermelon may run out of runway before the first frost so I didn't plant a bunch of it. Just an experiment really...

Watermelon Jam
makes 4 or 5 1/2 pints
4 cups mashed watermelon
2 cups sugar
1 box low sugar pectin
1/4 cup lime juice

Cook watermelon, lime juice & sugar until it reaches a roiling boil. Add pectin & whisk until dissolved. Boil 1 minute. Decrease heat & simmer 15 minutes, stirring constantly.
Fill prepared jars. Wipe rims, top with lids and rings. Water bath jars for 10 minutes.

I’m thinking these are bad guys. Seems like I remember something about them being Monarch related. 🤷‍♀️ They are “ gettin busy” on a milk weed pod.

This guy was enjoying one of my dill plants. I left him alone too. I think he might be a Swallowtail caterpillar but I’m not positive.
Oh, and I harvested several cucumbers and Roma/San Marzano tomatoes and cherry tomatoes.

Mantis! The orange and black bugs look like milkweed bugs to me and I believe they are harmless for the most part. Yes, that is a Swallowtail caterpillar! 😍
