What did you do in the garden today?

We had goats for a while & we could not keep them in, they were magicians at escape.

We had a skunk stuck in the chippie trap this am. DH is brave, he went out & set him free. The traps are pretty harsh, they kill chippies instantly when they snap, the poor guy had his leg stuck in it. I'm thinking it may be broken, he limped away, but maybe not. I don't mind the skunks, they eat the grubs & don't bother the chickens so I didn't want to off him. I hope he's ok.

Another hot one today, where's fall?

Still getting tons of sungold tomatoes, squash & peppers. The beans are growing again, I was going to pull them but I won't as long as they are feeding me! Tied up & trimmed the squash yesterday. I think I may have leaf spot on my strawberries. If it is I'll yank them all & not look back, they are so hard on my back to pick that I don't really care & the big beds will be put to good use.

that reminds me, no real rain for 2days now, time to water before it gets too hot.
I keep getting attacked by the snuggle monster. Every time I go outside, she wants to jump up on my shoulder or back. It's getting annoying and hate to do it but she's going to start getting .,.... placed... back down on the ground, this is getting too much. She needs to learn to stand up for herself with the others and stop hiding behind me. I get it, she's smaller than them but she's a barred rock, I think they are a smaller breed to begin with, she needs to learn to 'deal' with that because when the time comes they DO all get locked up, she won't have much of a choice will she?

Gently walked out back to put baby Cochins in with others for the day and noticed the seeds we sowed last week are sprouting like crazy inspite of the critter digging em up...lost 1 pumpkin transplant but others all look well!
This is my first time ever planting radishes...hoping they do better than the other stuff that grows down under where ya can't see LOL!

is it true that goats eat plants with thorns? if so you can bring your goats to take care of those wild berries.
They do eat the blackberries but aren't interested in the wild raspberries. They have access to the pasture that abuts the garden but there's just too much for them to make a dent. Goats are browsers rather than foragers. They nibble here and there as they trek around the place and the area next to the garden is too big to fence them off up there even temporarily. Plus there is no shade or water for them up there.

Planned to up pot a bunch of pineapples but realized I used up the last of my perlite so off to the store I went..

Just checked rainfall for the month - 1.48". That is 5.35" below normal for the month and I doubt we'll get any today/tomorrow as we're at 40% chance of rain.
I can relate. It was supposed to rain Sunday - today. It rained heavily yesterday just a mile north of me but we haven't seen a drop. Next opportunity isn't until this weekend so I'm going to have to water the garden by hand.
