What did you do in the garden today?

Well I made my first video for the long process of putting the tilapia disaster together.
while I was yapping and poking the camera here and there explaining stuff, I noticed ANOTHER problem, sigh... back to the hardware store with the incompetent Z tards to try to get some wood from them... grumble..

I figured Ill do several short videos of different steps, ie the pool, the plumbing, the filtration, the lay out bed, etc etc, that way people can see little pieces instead of having to dig thru one HUGE poorly edited video. At the end I want a final video of water gurgling as it should, happy plants growing like crazy, happy fish blorping and slorping like crazy, and the zapping of the electric fence keeping the chickens out of the entire thing as I am absolutely SURE they will try to raid it.... thats what they do :D

Well, maybe the final video can be 'electric fence cooked chicken dinner' if I up the voltage a bit hehe. Throw some fish on it, You heard of Surf and Turf, this can be Surf and Chirp, on a bed of freshly grown greens. :lightbulb:

You know, I can count on one hand how many hornworms I've come across in the 3 years I've planted a garden at this house... Not sure why we don't really get them. Maybe I have unwittingly planted a deterrent? Or maybe it's the gazillion birds around here? Or parasitic wasps... Not sure.

My arugula, lettuce, broccoli, and cauliflower have all sprouted. Carrots have not in either location I planted them. Will wait a few weeks and try again.

The pumpkin I planted in the 5 gallon bucket is growing really well. I'm hoping I can get at least 1 pumpkin from it before the weather kills it.

Gotta spray for spider mites again and spray the fruit trees & berries for fungus.

Gonna go pick more tomatoes and peppers this morning. Will be a hot day, I think. So sick of the heat.... Ready for fall since we had a taste of it.

Yesterday Hubby and I put the greenhouse cover over the frame, which was put over my two rows of slowly ripening tomatoes in the garden. He and son had wrangled the whole frame over the 6' wire and cable fence (protection from deer, rabbits, AND chickens!). My heroes! Daytime temps have dropped into the 60's. Still a few more green beans, zucchini, and kabocha finishing.

Just saw that it will be back up near 100 degrees by mid next week.

Green tomato salsa is like green salsa made with tomatillos. I tend to make it much hotter than my red salsa.

Did you switch to something else?

Your dill carrots looks excellent, I didn't get any sprouts at all so I mught try that with store bought carrots. And your garden looks great!

Spent an hour picking wild huckleberries and wild blackberries at Eel Lake, just got about 3.5 cups of fruit. I have more respect for the locals that pick wild huckleberries and sell them now. But the good news is berries make a heck of a lot more juice than crabapples do. I got slightly more than 7 half pints of jelly out of them. Such pretty jars too. I'll do it again especially if I can get a good deal on berries.
We haven't given him anything but Benadryl and apple cider vinegar foot baths(he mainly chews his feet). Oddly, he's done pretty ok this year, possibly his best year since his allergies, but he's still a mess. Though I think that we upped bath time to one a week helped quite a bit. It is truly a hassle, and he's old and ornery but the cool bathing has helped. I will add he's an "old" hound so he may just sleep more than he itches.

Canning jar recall-
Roots and Harvest is recalling over 15,000 of its wide mouth pint canning jars. Pieces of glass can be found in some of the jars, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

If you have the recalled jars, contact the company to receive a full refund. The company says they will provide a return shipping container, free of charge and a prepaid return label.
I am still using some jars from 1913 . Quality .

Good morning! My little dude and I hiked/ walked about 4 miles today. The garden got a walk thru, picked some lavender and sage to dry. We dispatched two of our roosters one decided to chase my little boy the other was literally trying to jump one of my whitings while she was trying to lay. They were stressing everyone. Dot my good roo is still getting foot treatment, not bumble foot but an attack wound from one of the other roos.

Picture is Honey-Lemon my hen who lays in the lemon tree start
