What did you do in the garden today?

About 5 days ago we realized we had a broody gen that was tucked under some shade cloth we have over some cages in the run. Smart momma- hidden pretty well and safe from the elements. Today we discovered 3 chicks hatched!! There are maybe 3 more eggs to hatch. She seems dedicated to sitting longer, so we will see if the rest hatch.

What a pretty momma!

I went ahead and pruned down the peppers since it will be dropping below 50 degrees consistently at night after today. Going to dig them up and transplant to a container. Fingers crossed that I can replant them next spring! Now what to do with all the extra peppers... I have at least (8) gallon sized bags of peppers in the freezer. DH is going to complain for sure.

I just saw where others are doin that with their pepper plants too!
So I'm guessing u got a heated basement or garage?
My garage isn't heated so I'm guessing it wouldn't do me any good to try right?

I think I read at one point you want them to go dormant, but not freeze. I heard keeping them in the 40s (maybe 50s)

I mowed some leaves for use in the garden . Already more on the ground . Probably a twice a week job until they are all down . I mowed once them put the bagger on and mowed again . Reduces volume a lot .
Yeah I just paid the neighbor's kids to pick up 5 gl buckets full for $5...poor kid offered me to work an hour for 6 cents!!! Sweet kiddos with autism.

Yeah our coldest times last winter were 30s in garage best I remember....oh well.
I have grow lights for next season and will definitely get a jump start on what I know we need based on this last season and last year's garden! Huge improvement inspite of the drought!

I was going to overwinter them in my sunroom... They don't have to be kept in the dark, do they?

Edited to add.... Just saw the comment on dormancy. I could put them in the garage. That's where I overwinter the yacon

My garage isn't heated either. I'm still going to keep them in there... Especially if they are at the back wall where it's warmer due to ambient heat from the house. What do I have to lose? The yacon was out there last winter and it bounced back so I think the peppers will be fine. If not, no biggie....
