What did you do in the garden today?

What variety do you grow? Mine is Music.

Ah! Yes, I should do that too.
I wish I knew! I got a bunch from a local farmers market a few years ago, one is pink (just slightly streaked), and the other white. I’ve been keeping bulbs and replanting a bunch every year since then! It grows really well here in NY…I wish I knew what kind it was! How does the Music do for you?

I planted some garlic today too... Just some bulbs I picked up from the store. They were quite large. I hope they produce an equally large bulb themselves! ❤️

I also did a little bit of weeding today but it got really hot and my heart wasn't in it so I went inside. Started storming about an hour ago. Supposed to rain off and on all night. Praying we get an inch. Forecast is for a half inch, I think... Anything helps at this point.

The garden is done for the year, almost at least. We are supposed to get a frost here the ne t few nights so we pulled everything minus some of the hardier cool season vegetables.

Tomatoes are in; cherries were prolific, romas did well, and there was some sort of beefsteak variety that was slow to star but snuck in a bunch of fruit deep in the plants. Brandy wine I think it was. one of the cherry types was beautiful, roughly the size of a golfball. The brandy wines had a lot of cracking going on but produced large fruit. Not seedy, very fleshy. A burger or BLT tomato for sure.
Sunflower heads are in to dry.

Chickens had a lot of treats today. Nice have been eating the roots of our greens, beets (super annoying), and other root veggies. We opened up the garden for the dog to hunt around in and he bagged a mouse. Sorry mouse…they ruined half or more of our beets. The dog didn’t help the matter but at least he got one of the mice.

Corn isn’t ready, we’re going to leave what little we have out. All the herbs came in. Trying to overwinter some rosemary and bell pepper plants. I’ll be starting super hot pepper plants in another month or so.

We’ll be canning tomorrow. Bow season’s last day is tomorrow, which is a bummer. At least things will be quieter for general. Bear has been by the front door but passed by our place. Maybe the electric fence worked? He’s not big, maybe 2’+ at the back.

Thanks

Tuesday morning we'll see a hard freeze of 21. That will put an end to the pumpkins in the fields for the kids, the late season apples on the trees, done. I'll put the mums in the garage.
This coming week our night time temps are finally going to drop below 70F. :p I was finally able to start planting some seeds.
