What did you do in the garden today?

Ok, so honest question. lets say you got a 3-4-5 yo bird. Obviously WAY past it's time for a soft tender juicy bbq. so, just chop it up into soup? and is it really THAT horrrible to eat? or people being dramatic? I get it, the meat might be a bit chewier, but that's not a show stopper for me. Crock pot and dinner is on or how would you cook something like that so that it is NOT totally disgusting?

Also got some much needed mowing done in the garden today, thinking this is probably going to be 'the big shave' for the season where I take it down for the rest of the year. Moving totes around, getting grass / leaves mixed and packed into for the over winter squinch down / compost period.

I got the bees vaped again, had to hit them with oxalic acid. I got one of those new 18 volt battery operated vaporizers and the thing is HEAVEN !! I have some video's I shot on my channel if anyone is interested. DM me and I can send you a link if you want. given I made a solicitation to purchase one thru my affiliate link, so our Non Profit Nassau County Beekeepers Assn gets a kickback, I do not think it would be allowable / or cool for me to post that link here so I didn't.

Got water in the tilapia pond and a few fish in there, and like every OTHER STUPID PROJECT !!! I get it going then OOhh OOOhhh AAAhhh AAAhhh, idea time !!!! I want to do things 'better' and got a really good idea for the poop processing, so now that's another day or so when If finally get around to THAT thing, re doing it.

Briefly, the water gravity drains into the filtration barrel which is below the pond level, but the top of that barrel is above the pond so it will never over flow or drain out the pond. when it comes time to clean filter. I turn off water flow into barrel, shake the filter material out REAL good, from there I open another valve and the poopy water now gravity drains into my 'distribution' barrel for my irrigation system. Flip a switch, pump on, now it goes directly to my fruit trees / garden. Given Im dealing with 'main water' items and not a final misting, the holes in this part of the system are larger so won't clog up with mooshy poop being pumped thru them.... at least.... that's how I convinced myself it should work... in theory. Only one way to know for sure if it DOES work !!

Im thinking I am NOT going to plant a full on fall garden this year, maybe just get the garlic in so I can harvest that about may ish or whatever. This gives me some much needed rest, and a 'break time' to get caught up on all the other projects I got going around too, so by the time spring does come around, I am fully ready for it and most importantly, the garden, is fully ready for it.

Why the heck can't I have all these great ideas, and the money to do them at age 20 when I also have the time and ENERGY to do them, instead of later when im an old busted up old fart who'll probably be dead by the time he's happy with his garden?

I pressure cook old birds . Let cool and pull the meat off the. bones . Well it is actually falling off the bone . Cut it up smaller then chicken noodle soup or chicken and dumplings .

I have no rooster (don't want one) & timing hatchery chicks with a broody seems virtually impossible (if it would even work). I will live vicariously through y'all instead!

I've already let y'all talk me into chicks, I was happy with POL pullets at first. Then came the 'nothing like raising chicks' stuff. You can't talk me into a broody mama! You just can't. :lau
You can get fertile eggs and put them under your broody hen.

Just like chicken soup, but cook the birds for a couple hours in salty water before adding the rest of the ingredients.
My mother also just cleans them, and put them whole in a pot with water some onion, garlic, tomatoes, rice and Bharat, and salt of course. She boils in on the stove first, and then she puts the pot in the oven for a full night.
My mother is a great cook. You should try that.

Yea then I'd get boys & I don't want that.
Don't they have a vaccine?
I live in Asia, so maybe there's a different type of bird flu?
No vaccine here in the US.

Morning all. We had a frost last night, I can see it on my neighbors roof, but I don't know that it was much of one. Probably not enough to kill the plants.

I just do not understand why my lettuce will not grow. It's new, expensive, raised bed dirt. 2 different brand packets of seed. I'm so sick of buying lettuce when I should be growing it! It's under a hoop, I'm thinking it might just be too wet in there. I think I'll take the cover off & see. But that can't be it because I only put the cover on recently. Argh, I think I give up. The lettuce beat me.

Now THAT is an idea I will have to try!

There are a few strains of the bird flu.

A vaccine will NEVER last for long, because by nature, flu's will mutate into something else pretty much within 6 to 8 months, especially something like that, that is allowed to spread so widely and multiply so much.. even if they did find one it'd probably not be worth a hoot by next season or two because most of 'those' would have been killed off / prevented by the vaccine (as long as you use the REAL definition of vaccine) and whats going around now is the newest thing.
