What did you do in the garden today?

ahhHA !!!

If you are going to try to sneak a private little nest somewhere, do NOT blurt out the egg song when the human is standing 10 feet away !! I found where the rest of the eggs are, 7 of them. Scooped them up and the girls will now be locked up for the next 4 or 5 days until they get good and used to laying where they ALWAYS have been and NEED TO BE !!

Especially now that the little ones should be laying themselves starting next week or the following week, the LAST thing I need is them to learn to lay eggs where they are NOT wanted. They need to bust their little chicken cherries right in the egg box where the last 4 generations of chickens have done so !! :) not be foraging new frontiers under the tilapia pond!!

years of egg box and now out of the blue, we want to pull this stunt....grumble....

Ive tried that, it won't help. WHen my legs cramp up, I have actually had it so bad it tore muscle and caused bruising they cramped up so tight. I got about a 10 second window to 'catch it' when it fires off. If I can get on my feet and work some pressure on it and get some 'activation' in that muscle, ie rock back and forth varying the use of them for balance, or rubbing and kicking my leg out, I can generally work it out to where the 'urge' to want to cramp stops, but if I don't catch it in time or it just does not want to behave, then whammo, it locks, and I lay there for 10 minutes massaging the rock on the back of my leg trying to get my toes to uncurl and my leg to straighten out again.

Of course normally this wants to hit at around 2 am, it waits until you are in a deep sleep, the best sleep you attained the entire night, you might even have a pleasant dream going on for a nice change when it interrupts. But, on those rare RARE nights when you don't get woken up by leg cramps, or lightning bolts down the back, at about 2 am, the smoke detector will 'remind' you that you have not changed out it's battery in a while :)

A great nights sleep, is a thing you will NEVER experience EVER again in your life.
Go ahead smart ass, drink some booze, NOT gonna help D Take those pills, nope, were gonna wake you up anyways.. work your ass off so you are bone tired and do a combo of both...umm no no... we have the bird on our side too, we will use HIM to wake you up in the middle of the night, screaming at the top if his lungs... because a bug got in the house and is walking across the floor. If none of that works, we will send the bug HIMSELF to crawl across you at 2 am and that WILL wake you up, guaranteed.... No sir, no siree you are NOT allowed to get a good nights sleep EVER again !!

Ever tried Theraworx? Despite back surgery hubs still gets leg cramps and it seems to help him quite a bit. He’s had them get him up in the night from a dead sleep, but uses that stuff and can get back to bed.

Bone/chicken/vegetable broth.
You've seen used the chicken broth In. Cans/boxes at the store? Used in soup dressing stuffing.its the same thing only alot tastier. The can stocks are too salty for me. I make my own. Chicken-carcass bones all go in a bag in freezer. When bags full or I feel like it I boil them down, usually add onion to mine then I will fill qt freezer bags lay flat and freeze
I do same thing with beef bones.
Veg stock. The bag gets alot of my veg trimmings, except potato peels. Bag full I boil it down. Freeze .
:highfive: This is what I do also. Makes it so easy.

That is beautiful @WthrLady! You might have said, but I forget, is it for any special occasion for your sister?

I've started making my bone broths without veggies - just peppercorns. Although the chickens usually have veggies & herbs stuffed inside the carcasses that end up in the pot. I have to say, chicken broth from the store isn't too bad, but NOTHING compares to home made beef broth. The stuff in the stores doesn't compare. I make a big pot every so often in the 20 quart pot then I pressure can it. I don't have freezer room to store it (despite having 3 freezers). It's one of the things that takes a lot of time to make & process, but is SO worth it.

Just got the fig tree in the house - nearly killed myself, that was dumb. If my back wasn't already, literally, broken I'm sure it would be now! :lau But DH is working long hours, if he even comes home. I couldn't wait any longer. Need to blow out the water lines tomorrow, I think. My molter put herself on the roost tonight, I didn't have to block nests. :yesss:

Talk of water reminds me I need to go plug in the waterers....off to do that...

Also, I will buy a 10 lb bag of leg quarters (I know) and section it out legs thighs. They have part of the back attached to thigh. I cut that off, boil the backs and debone. A surprising amount of meat from those backs, I package meat to add to soup, chicken salad, casseroles, anything that needs just a little meat taste. Then put bones back in water and make broth.

I use the roosters we cull in a similar way. Roast them, debone, then use the carcasses for broth. Then divide everything however I want to and freeze. I like to freeze broth in various amounts so I can use in recipes.

Nope. Just because we dislike clothes shopping and she deserves a new dress.
