What did you do in the garden today?

Well, I re arranged the pump so there was water circulation but no real exposure to outside air, maintained the tilapia tank at it's temperature. it's 16 degrees out tonight, and the tank only lost 2 degrees of temp .vs. what was it 12 from yesterday? Amazing on how much just a very little exposure even to the wind can cool things down so fast.

Fed the girls and brought them out a bucket of warm water which they seemed to like. Seen a frozen chicken poop that looked like a butterscotch chip. I'll never look at christmas cookies the same again :/

Citrus seems ok, going to water it heavy today to keep it hydrated because im sure the wind is trying its best to dry it all out. all other plant life is crispy crittered and died right off. Kind of good, now I can tear the stuff up in front of the house that over grew and try to re contain it where it belongs and not feel guilty about Ooh,but it's an XX I don't want to rip it up.... You have 400 feet of overgrown XX. RIP IT UP ALREADY !!

right now staying inside to warm up. Just for S and G's I took a thermometer outside to see what my heat pump was putting out, holy boogercicles batman, its pissing out 4 degree air !! Yah Iguess that thing IS super efficient. I am glad I did this, my main 'setup' initially I was going to have my grow out ponds for the tilly tank right there, but I don't know if I'd want 4 degree flowing across them. Granted next winter when i gets this cold, those ponds get drained and the plants.... whatever because youd' never keep that kind of surface area warm in weather like this but still.

I also found one of my chickens, she won't sleep in the coop, she made a burrow of sorts in one of my big aparagus pots and climbs up in there and sleeps for the night... silly doofus go figure! Id think she'd be happy with the other girls being warm but nope she wants out there. Which is strange because she is the alpha bit.... err bird. I'll leave her there, screw her, less drama in the coop anyways with her not being part of that night time mess anyways.

when it warms up time to check on bees and throw some food on them. poor little girls.

THey didn't notice that when they moved in? That is something that really should have been stated on the sale or something like adeficiency. Shady. The only reason the tank is recessed is because they F'd up when the put the pipe down and did the blueprints wrong. It'd be a little expensive but that CAN be fixed, cut floor, cut off 4 to 6 from the poo pipe, re glue and then remount toiled out where it belongs. If they did that to me I'd bag my $#%t all winter long then drive by and dump it on the builders porch every spring!
The previous owner (not the builder) didn't live here year round. One time the basement door was left open, all the propane in the tank used up, and the house froze. The toilet tank or a pipe to it broke, and there was water damage all down that wall, from the second floor to the basement.

That owner was a day trader (I think) and lost a ton of money in the Great Recession. He let the bank have the house back. I told anyone I saw looking to buy it what had happened. (Got some VERY dark looks from realtors, haha!) So the current owners knew what was up, and offered on it accordingly.

What we have here is the main thing: location, location, location. The end of a dead end road, on a river, out in the boonies. If you're into that kind of thing, this is heaven.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I never froze seeds, I will try this in 2023.
My FIL always kept his collard see in the freezer so I do too.
I also sometimes save hollyhock seed. It tends to get a tiny weevil that eats out the seed and makes in nonviable so I freeze them too to kill any eggs they may leave. No problems with them anymore.
Other seeds I just keep in the fridge. They will stay viable a lot longer. I have grown out seed 10-15 years old. Not all seed will last this long but many will keep a good while. I can't grow and save seed on everything every year but this lets me keep a good supple of the things I like to rotate.

Pouring freezing rain and graupel here and 19'
Quiet Christmas. Son came up for texmex lunch and present and chat and send him home before the mess started on the roads. Just in the nick of time.
Tree and Christmas packed up and put away.
I'm logged into work and DS is reading a book and drinking new tea I got him for Christmas.
Ahhhhhhh. Peaceful.

Merry Christmas all. Had a very rough night last night, almost went to the er but I’m feeling much better now. The on call doc talked me off the ledge, poor guy, I was bawling to him on Christmas Eve, lol. I just don’t know why they rush people out of the hospital so quickly then get all stingy with the pain meds.

supposed to warm up around here a bit the next few days.

Aw, you poor thing. I don't know why they rush you home either. Geesh popping out a baby used to land you there, pampered for a week, by the time I had one 36 hours. Have a girl? Even less.
And somethings are same day surgery and home, but dang it, somethings just AREN"T, especially when you are prone to overdoing it when you go home (not saying you did), or the weird things that happen post op, and then you're home without support.
Glad you're better now though.

You had back surgery right? WTF, they should have given you percocets or something of that family. No, F that, the pain from that is unreal the first 3 or 4 days, even WITH the pills you have to think every second and plan your moving. Between my back, neck, arm, and shoulder, and when my intestines rotted, I think the back tops the pain chart. The guts come close but that back, because you really CAN'T find a comfortable position. ugh. Come monday call your operating doctor and tell him give me my GD percocets or vicodin, you ideally should have gotten a 30 days upply.
