I just cut the stem tips at a leaf joint and dip it in rooting hormone and stick them in 4 inch pots. Then I wait for the roots to show at the bottom of the pots. Sometimes they grow leaves before they root. When the roots show I usually pot them in nursery gallons with a mixture of peat moss and sand....very carefully so not to break the roots. I am considering starting a fig orchard. There is a lot of info on the net to help you out.
Henless these Elderberry cuttings I started in seed starter mix. There is no soil in the mix so the roots can develop pretty easy also.

That is why I paid for my Elderberry cuttings last summer and had to wait till Jan. to get them.![]()
I have had success with some rooting some cuttings while some of my trees were growing. But even if you buy cuttings from nurseries they sell cuttings from dormant plants. So it's up to you which you prefer to try. Just use rooting hormone to make sure they don't get a disease.
I know I'm itching to get some started. You all are making me itchy to play in the dirt also. Thinking that I just might be able to start some cold weather seedlings to then move into the green house. If I started Brassica seedlings now, perhaps they could be planted out in green house under cover in 5 weeks.
See link above. You may have to do a little looking through the site but they have just about everything at a reasonable price.Where do you get your containers? I have usually started my tomatoes in 4-6 inch pots. I always have a hard time waiting also.
