What did you do in the garden today?

Finally getting nice enough to mess with the garden but the coops are still on it from winter, and will be staying there one more week

Last weekend I acted like the middle aged male I am and while cleaning up yard debris I picked up and drug way too big a log across the yard to the burn pile, was fine at the time but once I sat down it spasmed, messed up a disc in my low back. Making progress on healing but in order to continue progress I think the garden needs to be neglected one more week. Probably just let the girls out to start picking at the early weeds, dandelions starting........

Maybe take the kids to Menards to pick out seeds.

Junkman I think most of us have that problem right now.

That's cool! How big do avocado trees get?

Large. My parents grew 2. When they were about 4' tall they went from pots into the ground. They live down south in Rockport, TX near Corpus Christi, minutes from the ocean so the weather is relatively mild; however, the trees required help during the "winter". For the first winter, Dad built an 8'x 5' cage, wrapped in sheets with a heat lamp at the top for the big tree, planted in full sun, that went over it during cold days. It made it and produced maybe a dozen really delicious avocados that year. It grew to at least 15 feet tall, produced more avocados, but then caught some disease and he ended up pulling it and putting an orange tree in its place. The smaller tree was planted in partial shade and last I recall, it's still there but still small. I wish I could remember what disease it got, I'll have to call and ask him. He has an AMAZING green thumb and really loved that tree.

Thanks Pc
I know nurseries keep huge trees in pots for years. So I am going to try it here. I will get a roller thing for it when it is larger and I can't lift it.
There is someone in NZ who grows all types of avocado trees. He keeps them to between 2 and 3 metres. Says he's too old to climb trees ha ha.I do know they only fruit on new growth so they will keep getting taller. My husband visits an elderly friend who has a yard filled with avocado trees 10 metres [30 feet plus] tall.Fruit is retrieved with a stick and watch out for your head.
