What did you do in the garden today?

I'm still not feeling well. I thought I would have to take off work tonight, but I think I can go. But I have done little around the house and gardens today.

I added another branch in the chicken coop to encourage them to explore the highest roosts.

I sprinkled some alfalfa pellets under my hardy kiwi plants that I just put in. They are not looking good. I need to fertilize them properly.

I gathered some outer leaves from my Swiss chard, sauteed them in butter, and mixed them in with ground beef and Montreal Steak seasoning.

The neighbor's cow was in my yard again, so I had to deal with that.

Got the trellises up for the melons, pumpkins, and indeterminate tomatoes. Also chipped away at the irrigation system. It's probably around 75% complete now.

Comfrey seeds still haven't germinated. 😕 For that matter, I've had a lot of flower seeds that haven't germinated. I'm also underwhelmed with the pasture seed germination. I think the problem is lack of consistent water... The pasture seed makes me mad because it cost A LOT of money and I'm hardly seeing anything. I don't know if it washed away in the one day of heavy rain last week or if the birds & ants ate it. I haven't let the chickens out for 2 weeks since I put the seed down. There is some germination, but it looks thin and sparse... Not where I expected it to come up or as much.

I planted some seeds this morning, then watered them in. Basil, dill, marigolds and zinnias. I planted marigolds around the sides of my tomato bed and basil on each end. The zinnia seeds, I just tossed them around the perimeter of my small cucumber bed and scratched the seeds into the ground. The dill got its own little spot between summer squash and a clump of crocosmia.

If any come up, great. If not, no big deal.

My rose bushes are extremely happy so I'm bringing some blooms inside to enjoy :)

I finally got the garden all planted! We had to make a whole new garden bed, because my chicken coop is going where the old one is. So my partner came and helped me build the bed on Monday, and then I took my mother to work yesterday and we got all the plants. We have several different kinds of tomatoes and peppers, carrots, lots of strawberries, beans, basil, zucchini, cucumbers, cantaloupes, and a few other miscellaneous plants. I’m finally rejoining this thread after the LONG winter! Can’t wait to see everyone’s gardens!
