What did you do in the garden today?

I purchased a two barrel compost tumbler. My neighbors are moving and wanted to get rid of it. The best part was it already had compost ready to go so I get to use that in the garden or flower pots right away.

I hung flower hooks on my chicken coop, planted strawberry plants in planters and hung the planters from the new hooks.

Added some fertilizer to my flowers.

I also gave the garden a good soaking.

This is a year of firsts for me. I got baby chicks for the first time, and I took the plunge and planted a square foot garden. Have also been putting flowering plants in the ground since last fall - hydrangeas, hyssop, abelias, mock orange, Mrs BR Cant roses, etc. Now working on putting in lots of plants that encourage birds and butterflies. Next year the plan is to plant a fruit tree or two, although I did plant 3 blackberry bushes a few weeks ago. Anyway, surprisingly to me, I haven't managed to kill anything (yet) especially in my little vegetable garden. Got my first harvest of pole beans yesterday and some hot peppers that are ready today. My cucumber plants are flowering and my watermelon plants have started to take off. I have found that gardening is becoming quite addictive; I go to bed at night planning what I am going to do the next day and anxious for the next morning to come so I can get started!

Yesterday I planted some marigolds in the vegetable garden. Noticed that the green beans seeds sprouted in 1 of the 2 places I planted them. The "surprise" plant ( I think it is a pumpkin vine) has really started traveling. Yellow squash is blooming but not seeing any squash. Pull some more kale for the chickens.

I had a super busy spring with tons of baby chicks (which then led to lots of housing construction for them), so I am really behind with my garden (esp. for my climate), and my transplants are still in their gallon pots. I'm still going to try, though. Posting here so you guys can keep me on track.

You sound like me. I just got beans in and squash only went in about a month ago and the okra is only a couple weeks old and the melons too.

AUGH!!!!!!
DH decided he was going to be helpful today and rototil my garden. I hear the tiller start up and get going. I look out the window and start cussing; he is going down the middle where all of my corn and green beans are planted and coming up!
Well looks like I am replanting my beans and corn later this week.
