What did you do in the garden today?

Waiting for the rain that is supposed to show up tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.

All garlic has been pulled and is now drying on a wire platform except for the last variety.

Planted some rutabaga and beets today, where the last batch of garlic was pulled from.

Tonight I dug up the purple Viking potatoes (purple skin, white interior) and baked them-very good!

Some of the violets - look at how dark some of these are!

Those are violas, I believe. We used to call them Johnny-Jump-Ups.

Update!

One more watermelon hanging from the trellis. I cut another old t-shirt to make it a sling. I think that makes five fruits, so far.

Cantaloupes!

I need to figure out which variety I planted that is producing the elongated fruits.

Tomatoes! Plum on left, I have already picked three. "German Johnson", an heirloom variety is on the right.

I searched but couldn't find ONE Army worm on the tomatoes.
:yesss:

First peppers, think they're Kentucky Wonder:

And despite having lots of blossom end rot, I finally have another Summer squash, "Lemon", ready to pick.

All around us got storms with rain. All we got was dark skies, lightning, thunder, wind and the power blinked out and back on. 😞 We really need the rain. Today the High was over a hundred without the heat index.
On the gardening front I checked my raised bed at my house and discovered that I have so many spaghetti squash growing on the small trellis that the weight of it had caused the long side of the raised bed to pull away from the short side of the raised bed 😳. I would have thought the trellis would have given way first as it is just held on with some hammer in type staples. I’ll get a picture tomorrow. Was discussing with my hubby how to shore it up for the rest of the summer.
I went to see my son today. He is still in ICU. But today they had him up and sitting in a chair !! He wasn’t as sedated. They still have him on a ventilator and he still has a blood infection and infections in the skin grafts on his back but this was a huge improvement. They also had his legs & arms unwrapped and his hands only lightly wrapped but without splints. They did have to put k wires in 2 of his fingers because he damaged the tendons in those fingers but fortunately they are both on his right hand and he is left handed. They said the wires will come out eventually but I’m not sure if those 2 fingers will ever work or not. But overall, great progress. 🥰

That was a great read! It sounds like you stand a good chance of getting them to grow.
Yep, that was a great article about growing red huckleberries. I hope I can get some cuttings to root. It would be cool!

Edited to add:

Dang, I think I'm starting to hear fireworks booming in the distance. I loved blowing stuff up when I was a kid, but these days I like peace and quite.

My dog is also totally scared of fireworks 😬 she starts trembling on dec 31st til the evening of Jan 1. Usually the noise starts a few days before 🙄 when it gets close to midnight she starts drooling and gasping, I tried a lot of stuff, last year I gave her some eggnog twice, but it’s a very fine line between calming her down a little and giving her too much 😓 I went into the basement with her during the night, and it wasn’t as bad as before, we had to carry her, she wouldn’t walk

That's great news @karenerwin, so glad to hear the improvements.

My dog is petrified of thunder & fireworks. We turn up the TV super loud, turn on all the fans, close up curtains & randomly bust out in song when it gets bad, lol. We dread NYE & the 4th.

Nothing happening here today in the garden. Ohh, walking thru the garden this am I remembered the cukes I got are self pollinating so I don't need male flowers - don't even know if they'll produce them. Sooo much closer to getting cukes now that I remembered that, lol. :wee :yesss:
