What did you do in the garden today?

How come cucumbers last a few days in the fridge when purchased but go wrinkly within a day or two in the fridge when from my garden?
also, can i still pickle them slightly wrinkly?
My guess, store bought varieties are bred to keep well in storage for a long time, at the expense of flavor. I think store cucumbers are sometimes waxed to seal in the moisture, too.

Melons are beginning to grow. I've got 20 melon varieties planted among 3 areas. They are now intertwined, so its a bit difficult to determine a few right now.

Charleston Grey watermelon. This is the largest variety I've planted...time will tell if they grow large.

Galeux D'Eysines squash/pumpkin. Supposed to be a warty type, but it looked like it was going to die a few weeks ago, but now has a fruit...so I have no idea if it will complete its growth cycle.

The squash will need to be trimmed...they are taking over the peppers.

That's exactly how we do it. It's actually very easy and the tomatoes essentially peel themselves almost with that method.
That's why I love my raw mill. It skins, cores, and seeds the beasts without steaming and cutting and bleh......
Shove them through, and can the juice or simmer it down and thicken it to can. Done.

I just spent the past 2 hrs blanching, peeling, and coring tomatoes. I'm pooped. And I'm not even close to done... I still have tomatoes that need to get a little more ripe. I'll use those to can tomato juice. The ones I just finished will be used to make and can spaghetti sauce. Did I mention how pooped I was? My feet & back are killing me and I still have to actually cook & can the sauce. Ugh... And I can't find my food mill anywhere. I'm honestly thinking that someone didn't know what it was and it inadvertently got thrown away.... 😕
Can’t you just throw them in the food processor?! I don’t peel my tomatoes, among others, the good stuff is in the peel!

I picked fresh herbs from my garden, including parsley, chives, tarragon, basil, oregano, thyme and rosemary (all started from seeds this spring) and used them to flavor up a cheese omelot I made with fresh, little eggs from my chickens. It was very tasty with a splash of hot sauce.

I never peel tomatoes. I wash them, squeeze them so that majority of seeds and liquid gets out then I blend them.
