What did you do in the garden today?

I got 4 free tickets to the St. Louis Blues hockey game ( Tuesday night)!! I took 2 of my grandsons. It was the oldest ones first hockey game and the other one’s 2nd hockey game. We were 4 rows from the ice! We all had a great time ( despite the non enthusiastic look on the older ones face 🤣) and the tickets came with food vouchers too! Plus our team won!!
I was very happy to be able to take the grandsons to this event.
So, I didn’t get to any gardening today. Will have to check gardens on Wednesday as we got a lot of big hail Tuesday evening. 3 separate times. 😳

My husband asked me what they taste like and I can’t think of anything to compare them with. Google says pumpkin but I don’t agree. They are sweet when they are ripe. Here that means they have turned an orange color and they are sweeter after a frost. They feel almost like jelly inside the skin, but can be a bit firmer and still be ripe.
Unripe and they definitely make you pucker up and you don’t forget it!

Care to share the recipe? I’d love to try them. 😊
@igorsMistress No, I definitely don’t think they have a yucky armpit aftertaste 🤣🤣
Grape & apricot had a baby ? I can definitely see the apricot kind of flavor but definitely a different texture.
Thanks so much Karen! I think I might plant one then, it’s something that I can potentially grow here and that description sounds pretty ok with me. I’ll read more about what them and go from there

That’s so cool, I’m glad you all had fun!

Isn't purslane edible?
Yes.
I believe so. I've never tried it, though.
It's a... juicy..? ish kind of green. Understandable, since the leaves are fleshy. I find it to be a lemon-y-ish taste. I think it's fairly high in oxalates, so if you have kidney issues, it might not be a good choice.

Nothing in the garden today. I’m on my 3rd load of laundry. I made apple streusel muffins for breakfast. I swapped 2 of my muffins for 2 pumpkin muffins DD baked. Very tasty. I moved the extra concrete blocks and some hardware cloth into the chicken yard so I can focus on that tomorrow. I just finished bathing the dogs. Time to sit with the chickens now. Looks like the daytime temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70’s next week. Of course this usually happens after I put the AC units away for the winter. I even grabbed a bag of wood pellets in case the overnight lows chilled the house too much. My daisies are blooming in the front yard. I’ll try to get a photo tomorrow. The leaves are just starting to turn around here. It’s hard to believe it’s almost October.

I picked the cherry tomatoes. I thought I "had gobs!" and found most of them had split. I got enough to fill one shelf in the dehydrator. :hmm Yup, I should have picked them before the rain.

The SunSugar variety (yellow) was definitely the best tasting and had the fewest splits. I'm sorry it's a hybrid. I think I will get some seed and grow some next year, anyway. They were that good.

Succulent?

I grow them for flowers, not salad. I'll probably skip eating them, as I've had three kidney stones.
