What did you do in the garden today?

I wish my living situation allowed for chickens, I’d be happy to allocate freezer space for the Japanese Beetles instead of having them munch my plants. Between those and the cutworms (?) most of my garden has been munched on this year. I’m thinking beneficial nematodes for next spring, has anyone had experience using those?

I listened to an old timer that recommended soil testing 1st. You want the right conditions to support & encourage beneficial nemas.

My brother love mimosa tea! It’s such a beautiful tree!

My fav teas are Hibiscus & Earl Grey. Never heard of Mimosa tea! Wow, gotta try it now.

I love mimosas even though they are invasive. I've been trying to get some to grow on our property. We finally have some popping up although not really where I wanted them. Oh well, I'll still take what I can get...

If anyone wants Mimosa seeds, let me know, come Fall I will have LOTS of them lol

I couldn’t resist and picked this 13lb watermelon.
Not ripe yet But now I know need to buy one for 4th!
The years b4 they would rot on vine so I’m proud of progress!

We finally got some rain a few days ago, not as much as predicted, did not rain an entire day, just a few hours overnight but it's better than nothing.

My garden is still trying to bounce back from that hail & wind. I see progress. Running behind, but there will be veggies soon.

Blueberries are done, well wild birds accelerated that, my own chickens, as well. Ever watch a plump chicken jump up to reach a berry? Hilarious! I've seen Hummingbirds on the Mimosas, Goldfinches in the wildflowers, & lovely Cardinals all over. The raspberries are delicious now! I need to take a walk to the lot next door & check out the Mulberry tree. I really love any kinds of berries.

Some pics of my poor hail & wind hit garden...trying hard to bounce back. One squash plant looked absolutely squashed, pummeled dead...wow, it's making a comeback! (I know, I get so excited over the little things )

That could be helpful for the lawn, but is it going to make a difference for containers? Most of my veggies are in garden boxes, the rest are in pots and hanging planters. I’d love to keep the helpful nemas alive in my containers indefinitely but I would expect the outdoor ones to freeze and the indoor ones to eventually run out of bugs to eat and starve. But if I can avoid them dying off that would be spectacular.

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!
