What did you do in the garden today?

Extremely proud of my first-ever garlic harvest! However, can anyone tell me why some of these have holes in them? Is it a pest? Or splitting because of the way I grew them? Also, will these ones with the holes still store well, or should I try to eat them ASAP?
Congratulations! Home grown garlic is wonderful!

Those holes are the work of a pest, possibly garlic mites. Unless you nicked them with whatever you dug them up with....?

Here's what I do with my garlic. When the hard stem in the middle and the roots are dry, I break the cloves off the stem. I know a lot of people store the heads intact, especially with softneck garlic, so that they can braid them together.

I like to separate the cloves so that I can sort them. I sort according to size (the biggest ones are saved for planting), and to see if any have any pest damage or are in danger of spoiling before the rest.

Any clove with any kind of damage is not going to store as well, so it gets eaten first. I just cut off the damaged part when I use that clove. So, to answer your question, yes, eat those cloves up first.

If you find any pests in the clove, throw them in the garbage or burn them. Don't toss them in the compost.

If you plant garlic again, plant it in a different spot. I'll be choosing another spot for next year's garlic, as I've found some damage from garlic mites.

Has anyone had jalapenos that were totally lacking in heat?

I'm sure I planted the right seed. It was from the same packet I used last year, and those were hot. They are planted near sweet peppers and a habanero, with tomatoes near by. Just like last year.
I’ve learned through experience that some jalapeño's are quite mild and some really spicy hot. Unfortunately I don’t remember which one was the spicy one. I’ve had better luck planting jalapeno’s in containers

10 pages behind and not likely to catch up.

Helped my son move from his 3rd floor apartment (with no elevator) into his first house. According to a tracking app, we (DH, DS, and me) walk 27 MILES of stairs this weekend....

And to add insult to injury, I had to stay up working on a presentation for work until the wee hours of the morning and then be up at 6 AM to finish it up for an early meeting.

I don't even remember what the garden looks like....

2 years ago, I planted jalapeños right next to my habaneros and then used those seeds to replant last year. This 2nd generation of jalapeños turned out to be far hotter than habaneros. They must've cross pollinated, oops!
