What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, me too! I was hauling on a rope and hiding behind a big tree. I have been almost caught by falling trees twice. One was dead and just suddenly fell over, no wind. Another i was pulling a rope and was supposed to run. Not as fast as i used to be. We had a huge oak tree fall on the goat shed during a storm. One goat killed, one shook up.
Great you found the leak. I am going to need more caulk for the roof. I think there may be some in the shed. If not, might have to borrow or buy some. I want to do it as i go so i can reach seams without crawling on the roof. Metal would get bent for sure. Oh heck, local hardware store closed Sunday.:fl hope we have some left.

I called it quits.

My garden was a disaster this year. Had everything planted right when it should be and the ground temps were up only to have a two week long wet spell with chilly temps set in that took out 3/4s of my onion sets, all of my spinach and about half of my green bean and corn seeds. They rotted in the ground.

Replanted beans and corn. My bush beans did ok. Corn recovered only to have it hit by raccoons which stripped out al of the corn before we had a chance to really enjoy it (think we got 4 ears out of two rows and the coons got the rest) Tomatoes had stem blossom rot with the exception of the cherries that I planted for the chickens to enjoy and they did well. Chickens loved them. Cukes did okay. I had all I wanted and let the rest grow to giant size for the chooks. Squash and sugar pumpkins did absolutely nothing this year. Usually the vines take over the garden and I have more squash than I know what to do with. The only think that did marginally well were my potatoes and the onion sets that I replanted.

Very disappointed. Next year I'm cutting back. Only planting potatoes, onions and squash. I blame the weather more than anything. Too much hot followed by heavy rain, cool and then a return to ultra hot.

So what we did in the garden yesterday was plow and disc for next year, working all the grass and weeds into the soil to decompose.

That is the joy of a garden. If it doesn't work there is always next year.

Good morning sweet peeps!

@microchick So sorry you had such disappointment in the garden this year. I've had tomato blight troubles from all the rain. But our fall season approaches, so moving on! Always next season, yup.

Rained all yesterday evening, last night, still raining. Got absotively NO room to store more rainwater. Again. Been rotating thru all the stores between rains and still have some stored from 2months ago! Had to run the water hose the other day just to be sure it wasn't plugged up in mud!

Going to work on my garden and flock journals today. Got behind on those a bit. Doing some filing. I hate to let the paperwork get behind. Making my list of things I need to get and get done before fall. Placed my first sales ad for my excess chicks, now about 8 weeks old. Getting individual pics of those I'll sell. Hard choices!

@lazy gardener Glad you are feeling better! Took me a couple days to feel like myself after my last tummy troubles. Ugh. I need to do a freezer rework myself. Dogs will be happy!

Y'all have a beautiful day please!

Hello everyone! My knees are feeling a little better, but still using a cane. I finally made it out to the pumpkin patch for the first time in probably a week. The plants are growing and flowering, but still didn't see any baby pumpkins or squash. I think it will be too late for them to mature once they do start showing up. So disappointed! I think I may have planted them too late (end of May), though I figured out when to plant based on the seed companies estimated length of days to maturity. Next year, Lord willing, I will try to plant in early May. I also think it didn't help that this summer has been relatively cool here, and rather rainy since we put them out in the garden. The cool temps have been a blessing to me because I don't take the heat well, but I don't think the pumpkins share my love of the cool temps. The summer squashes are flourishing, as are the tomatoes and peppers. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussells sprouts look okay. Corn and a few other things look pretty good, as well. I'm so behind because of my knees. It's hard to do anything when you can barely walk at all. :tongue
