What did you do in the garden today?

The ACV in water didn’t help w peeling either. I put in ice bath right after.
I really am convinced that I need to let the eggs age.
Mine have some super shells 😂
I have tried every trick everyone has ever mentioned & none work on fresh eggs for me. They do just need to age a bit.
@Minanora , how are your fermenting peppers coming along? The freezer bag lid on mine started ballooning up from gas pressure after a couple days in the jar. It's pushed a little bit of liquid out past the ring into the bowl, so it's venting enough to prevent the jar from exploding. I hope. LOL

When I fermented hot sauce for DH I got the fermenting lids that fit on a mason jar. They worked well. But DH didn't like the hot sauce any more than the one I didn't ferment so I don't bother with it anymore, not worth the time & hassle.

Hey all. Garden is chugging along. Getting lots of beans, hot peppers & tomatoes. Almost time to pull the squash, the powdery mildew is out of control. I just canned 10 jars of cowboy candy, they're popping as I type. The 4 on the left have habaneros in them for DH. 🌶️

I'm so bummed, my Ball electric waterbath canner has been smelling like it's burning lately. I think maybe I found out why? I'll be so sad if I lose this canner, I love this thing. I'm praying DH can fix it.

@Sueby , I seriously wouldn't use it anymore. It could easily short out to the body of the canner and be an electrocution hazard.

I found this in the current Ball canner manual.

Maybe you can get a replacement base.

I had to baby sit my nephew's 4-year-old son last month and I made him read the English subtitles off an anime series. I was amazed at how intelligent he was, he could actually read.

However, he pronounces the word, "The" like thee and I pronounce it like, "Tha." I found out that the sound thee should be used for words that start with a vowel and the sound tha should be used with words that start with a consonant. That kid is a genius........:jumpy

Great question! The pronunciation of “the” can vary depending on the context:
  • “Thee” is used before a word that starts with a vowel sound. For example, “thee apple” or “thee elephant.”
  • “Tha” is used before a word that starts with a consonant sound. For example, “tha dog” or “tha car.”
This subtle difference helps with the flow and clarity of speech. Do you have any other language-related questions?

that's one of the first things foreigners learn.

Love that cowboy candy. My wife put some up only 5 jars so far but the peppers are still producing heavily. I need to pick them today along with the okra. Our 2 sons will get Cowboy Candy for Christmas.

Took down the plastic fencing from around the melon beds, removed the trellises and placed one over the peas:

I put the melon vines on the burn pile.

I also pulled up the bush bean plants but discovered a fire ant nest in the bed. Ouch. The vines are still on the ground, and I'm not moving them to the burn pile until the fire ants are totally dispersed.

There needs to be a cartoon for kids like the old fashioned one where mice were so hated to pieces and instead of mice it would be fire ants.

I've got over 4 acres here to police for fire ant mounds. It keeps me busy. I think the things that say they will kill the queen doesn't do the job for somehow there are some of the workers that are equipped to create another queen in another nearby location. If you don't catch it soon they have spread out into another dozen mounds.
