What did you do in the garden today?

My MIL trees are loaded this year. We are picking on the 16th. Most of the trees in our area look really good but the threat of a freeze is really high this year already. These are all in California though.

I hope you get a good oil content. You may find that the oil volume is still good per kilo, and that there's just less water in the fruit. Assuming the fruit isn't mummified or rotten. We've had very good oil in drought years. So there's still hope!!
I sure do hope that Mother in Laws don't grow on trees. Unlike the money tree we are waiting to discover. 🤣

Finally the rain has stopped for a few days. Had to rip out a lot of rogue strawberry runners growing into the garlic bed, which was finally planted yesterday. Goal today is planting the couple hundred flower bulbs that came in the mail a couple weeks ago. Deciding where takes me the longest, and putting up fencing to keep the deer from eating the tulips. Picked the last nice dahlias to bring in. Hoping the moles have left, since sprinkling some mole repellant right before the 3 rainy days. Otherwise I would have had to water the stuff in for 15 minutes. Thankfully God took care of that.
Leaves are not through falling, and we wait til the trees are bare to rake. Chickens are having fun scratching under them for tasty worms. Here's a fun article. https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2024/1...440&utm_medium=email&utm_placement=newsletter

Cloudy cool day here. I have a smart mouse in the garage. It gets in the repeating mouse traps and eats the bait. Can not figure out how he gets out. I first thought it was only one trap possibly malfunctioning. Added a second trap and same thing. Today I setup a bucket with some water and seed floating on the water. See if that works. I will get him one way or another.

I watered the collards this morning. I am a bit jealous of all that rain you all have been receiving. Still very dry here and no rain in the 10 day forecast. We are in a Red Flag warning. No outdoor burning at all. Yesterday it was around 72F today it reached 77F. Taking the day off after my very busy day yesterday. I’ll get back to outdoor work tomorrow. My snow blower was delivered from the repair shop. All tuned up and cleaned. Ready for snow. The temperatures are supposed to return to normal tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Last summer I had layed a dog wire panel over two raised garden beds to stop the Araucana from getting in. Since selling the hens I've been waiting on some small tomatoes to rippen and the coriander to seed before wrestling the panel off this morning.

The chickory got a good prune back - the stalks are as thick as small trees! Chickens are supposed to like chickory .. bah, not mine.

I noticed the recently planted Dahlia tubers are just popping through ... so excited - first-timer with Dahlias.

Happy gardening :)
