What did you do in the garden today?

Just got home with cement to set some poles for shade this summer. We have a few treated wood tree stakes that were never used. We’re setting them in concrete and attaching eye screws so we can attach a shade tarp in the hottest part of the summer. I set up a feeder for the chickens in the shade garden and I need to prep the soil where I intend to plant luffa this year. It’s somewhat overcast today and is still a wee chilly in the shade, enjoying it while I can, we are already getting hit with the mid 80’s next week 😬😡

I transferred a sage plant into a larger pot this morning. The dirt outside thawed so I dug up some horseradish roots too.

I, too, use winter for structural projects. I made a simple swing for the chickens (they're spoiled). And I identified where I want my bare root trees to go.
Also bought a gate for the garden. I'll attach some vintage welded wire I found in a free pile. 🌱

Planted seven persimmon trees and a peach tree today. Didn't get around to the loquats, figs, or elderberries though. Wrapped the persimmons in chicken wire too since they're in a spot that the wildlife likes going. I ache. It's mostly a good ache.
I'm also in tree-planting mood. I pick up a bare-root Ranier cherry this week. 🌱
I'd love to find a fuyu start.
Bareroot berries are going in pots in the spring. I'm not ready to think about how I'm protecting them from the hens but I've got time.

I bought a packet of Cascadia pea seeds today. They'll go into the ground late Feb or early March, depending on the weather.

I looked for red cabbage seed but found none. I'm going to grow red cabbage because it's supposed to have some resistance to the cabbage root maggots that hang out in my garden area.
I bought mine on Amazon last year and this year.
