What did you do in the garden today?

I replaced the valve seat washer in the outdoor hose bibb that I use for watering the garden because it wouldn't shut off completely. And I replaced a second failed hose bibb in a different location with a new valve assembly. Glad to get those chores out of the way.

Next project will be running new PEX pipe under the house to replace the old polybutylene pipes.

The 70% chance of rain turned into 30%, with most of it splitting and going either north or south. We got about 4 minutes of rain. I watered both gardens today.

The 60 and 70% chances of rain for tomorrow and Saturday have done the same thing.

And then I hear about the flooding down south, and want to slap myself for complaining.

I got bored and went out to the garden to entertain myself. I noticed that a few of my black seeded Simpson leaf lettuce plants were beginning to form flower heads so I picked all the edible size leaves. Got 'em all washed and in the fridge. And I pulled up a couple of the 3 foot tall lettuce stalks and gave them to the chickies.

I think I'm going to let a couple of the lettuces grow all season and try to get some viable seeds for planting next year. Same thing with my bolting collard green plants.

I got my mowing and weed whacking done! Thought I would take the shade cloth off of my broccoli plants to see what they are up to . I tried this new variety and even with our super hot days it didn't bolt! It's called "Belstar" and have new little tomatoes! "Happy Birthday little guys!" This is a new variety to me called "Plum Regal" a determinate paste tomato.

Nice looking broccoli! Wish I could grow it but never could.
