What did you do in the garden today?

After about 4 hours of work, I have managed to get the hoop house cleaned out. The grass was over 4 FEET TALL in there! 😳 I uncovered 4 kale, 2 Swiss Chard, 1 broccoli, and 2 cabbage plants...all chewed down to their stems by grasshoppers but still alive. I think if I cover them, they will recover. I also found a small Italia pepper seedling that will probably grow now that it's not being choked out by weeds. Same with my green pepper plant.

I still need to use the hoe and give the soil a good tilling to dig up roots so the grass doesn't just come right back.

I'll put some compost down this afternoon in there and then sow my fall broccoli and lettuce tomorrow.

And I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but we have been growing our own for years. The big mama (2nd photo) was wild from our brush/whatever the chickens won't eat pile. It has been topped. It is always fun to get a God plant. We have a passel load of photos and a couple of autos ready for harvest. View attachment 4188261
