What did you do in the garden today?

The reason I ended up with so many kale plants this year is because they were old so I planted extra to make up for it. They ended up being very viable.

Of course on the flip side I went through three sowings of old marigold seeds and only got a handful of plants, despite those seeds supposedly being good for 5-6 years, so 🤷‍♀️.

Egg salad on the fly.
That's better than the alternative...

I tried some at the beginning of this year that were “sell by December 2014” and didn’t get anything but it can’t hurt to try these. I found some more 2014 a few months ago in the not climate controlled garage so I have basically 0 hope for those but I might as well try to prove myself wrong
When my mom passed away in 2023, I went through her non-climate-controlled garden shed and found hundreds of seed packets. Most had expiration dates of 2016 or 2017. Depending on what it was, I was able to still get successful germination in 2024 and 2025. Doesn't hurt to try...

I was able to germinate beans, lettuce, carrots, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cilantro.
