What did you do in the garden today?

A brown chick hatched last night, and I finally got an unfertile egg. I have one egg left on lock down. I feel sorry for the little brown guy because I see the bigger yellow chicks bulling him. I am not sure if it's part of the pecking order process or because of his color, but I couldn't take it. I hit the guy who pecked him with a chop stick and kept hitting whoever else that bit him. I think it's working. Nope it's not, I think it's the pecking order thing.
Yeah, my old man heart breaks for the little ones that run scared and are bullied.

I’m actually filling in the pathways with used duck bedding I’ve had a raised bed garden that I built 10 years ago with landscape logs but I don’t like stepping up and down out of the raised beds, which I have to do because the fencing is up against some of them on the outside so I can’t get around all four edges and I can’t move the fencing anyway I’m filling in some of the pathways trying to make it more level

I used to have a big old coop with a nice sized run for my 10 girls. The 3 gold sex links have grown into such bullies that I've closed the door between the two. Now I have 2 good sized coops and no run. 7 girls super happy that the sex links have been moved. Ill build them a nice dust bath in the coop to make up for the loss of the run as soon as all this rain stops. I love the sex links, so smart and funny, don't want to rehome them. The side with the 7 girls is 14x14, and 12x12 for the 3 girls. A little enrichment on each side and I think all the girls will be happy. On the gardening side all the used bedding is going out to fertilize/mulch the lily bed.

We got our soil analysis back! We're in the desert so we don't have topsoil, just sandy dirt over layers of natural concrete called caliche. Not good for growing stuff.

For the past three years we've been adding soil, fertilizer, organic material, etc. Considering what we started with, the results were better than I expected although some of those values are REALLY high and we need to add boron.

Got my garlic planted today. I don't plant a ton by any means, but it's enough for us. Looked at radar and we are supposed to get 1.50" of rain in next 24 hours but the winds are up to 40 mph . Put the corrugated panels on the north side of the run up. Usually wait a little longer, but that just sounds miserable for the girls. Got my pepper plants pulled and in the compost. Slowly, but surely the garden is getting put to bed for the winter. Kinda sad, but the rest will be welcomed.
ETA- we did the panels in the dark since it so early now. Aren't headlamps the best?! I use mine just about everyday.

one of my new girls have similar colour. I put them (2) in a cage that is at least 4 x bigger than the cage they were in. as both of them are pregnant I need to make another cage so that I can separate them soon.

btw I use an old saucepen for water. it works the best for rabbits.
I had an old ceramic soup bowl I was using for water but she was emptying it really fast. I figured maybe she was tipping it so I put it inside a bigger, heavier ceramic planter. Still it was empty halfway through the day... So I bought one of those self-waterers that holds at least 6-8 cups of water. She knocks it over to drain the water out...even when I tried to secure it to the side of the cage, she still manages to tip it just enough to drain it. Brat...

I counted 35 of my garlic cloves have sprouted above ground so far. 55 more to go. Yeah, sad when the gardening is over, but good at the same time.
