What did you do in the garden today?

THe snow is clearing away here, just a few piles in the shady areas. THe fruit trees are still asleep, thought the buds are swelling. I dont expect flowers for a while yet. THe photo above gave me hope Spring will arrive. Just need more patience. lol

QUestions for all---- I have sage in a starter bed in the house and they need transplanting now that the second leaves are out. Can I plant them deeper than the original level?? Or not. All need repotting.

Second question. Chives are notsprouting. :( Same starter mix, and the sage is doing fine. Seed is as old as the sage seeds. 1-2 years--perhaps too old or something happened to them ( too hot, too cold, some thing else, ??) I'm determined to not need so many onions and chives seem to be the simple solution.
I'm thinking that if your sage is leggy, you could plant it a bit deeper. Do you have plenty of seedlings? If so, why not do half deeper, and half at the same depth?

Alliums (onions, chives, etc) are notorious for short lived seeds. You're wasting your time there. The easiest way to get some chives going is to visit someone who's been gardening for a long time. They always have huge clumps of chives, and would most likely love to "friend" you with a clump. You can also harvest a dried flower head full of seeds, and just sow with that.

The mango tree we got a couple weeks ago has doubled in height since we planted it! Goodness it's getting big. :)

The snow has come off my berry bed and my strawberries are green and alive! My currant bushes, newly planted last year, are also alive. Rhubarb is starting, horseradish is too, can't see the soup celery yet but I'm feeling good about last years efforts. Also the trees I put in last spring came through winter no problem...
Now I just need to borrow a rototiller, not my usual garden style, but I need a few more beds for this season.

Today, I potted up 15 trees! I had to do some scrounging to find pots big enough to cram those roots into, but, I got it done. A bit tight, but will have to do until I am able to get them in the ground... and will have to do some soil prep long before then! The smallest ones went into 8" pots, and the largest ones went into 5 gal. buckets. Some of them have buds that are ready to burst all ready. Also started some flowers. 36 dahlias from seed. And calendula and marigold, which will have nasturtium added to each 6 pack in a couple of weeks. While potting those trees, I thought I was going to freeze to death. Sun is still very weak.
