What did you do in the garden today?

I've posted them before but I put these over my boxes or I wouldn't have anything to enjoy

That's genius!

We were thinking of using catfish. I do not care much for the non flavor of Tilapia.
I might just try some comets first to make sure it all works before I kill anyone off accidentally.

We are growing channel catfish and now that it is a little warmer they are beginning to feed pretty well. I did not start out to do aquaponics and I will probably grow most of my stuff in dirt.

We were going to grow Tilapia but we can't keep them year round because it gets too cool here. And I don't really like Tilapia either.
I have one pool I am filling and it will hold about 1100 gallons and we are going to get some hybrid bluegill also. We were gonna go with coppernose but it is too far to go get them.

I always use goldfish to test my water. We get new ones every year. They breed in a small pond in the backyard.

Tilapia can be a lot of fun to raise. Good feed leads to great growth.
Planted peas onions and lettuce finally. Still can't touch half my garden because it is too wet. Also planted some raspberries and cut a little rhubarb
Love tilapia-- mostly because it is fed vegies to grow!! Didnt know stock was available for home use. Not that I have a pond big enough to stock . . . . but I can dream.

Second grow bed filled and planted. We also put a couple of water lilies and some other things my wife wanted into the pond. Now to wait and see how long it takes for the water to clear up a bit. Tomorrow we get to drop a couple dozen crawfish in there to keep the two dozen mosquito minnows company.

Won't the cray fish eat the mosquito fish? I found my tropical fish neatly chopped into fillets when I put a cray fish in my tank.

Interesting, we had cray fish in with very large feeder gold fish... No one got filleted

There are different kinds of crayfish. Some eat fish, others filter-feed and only use the claws for fighting other crayfish.

The water will turn brown before it clears so if you have any fish in there make sure they get enough air.
