What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks Jerryse. :D  I was afraid I had done something wrong. This is my first time trying to grow broccoli.

Double check what type of broccoli you bought. Mine were started plants from WalMart and they are literally named Baby Broccoli. Luckily I found the info tag because I was about to pull them all out because I thought they were bolting.

I showed your garden to my hubby.  This man is not a gardener.  He is a lawn mower.  More specifically, I call him "Mr. Mows-it-all!" when he climbs on his ride-on mower with optional cup holder.  He puts on his head-phone radio and goes into a state of Mower's bliss.  Nothing is safe from him.  Any how... this non-gardener, who mows all things green that he can get to with his mower... he looked at your pics, and said:  "Now! That's what a garden should look like.  A nice border around it.  No vines creeping into the grass!  With a garden like that, you wouldn't yell at me!!!"

Ours is fenced due to rabbits. Lol my husband walks by my garden and complains I don't weed enough as he finds the handful of weeds along the fence line. (rolls eyes)I have a lot of bush variety plants in there right now as my trellises weren't prepared. Next month following the bean harvest I'm going to try pole/vine variety. I threw some garlic that sprouted in my kitchen cabinet in the ground today. Hubby says it will keep my gophers away.

I got mine from Walmart also. I'm not sure what kind the tag said it was. I will look and see if the tag is still in the bed. This morning I saw a green tiny worm or catapillar in my broccoli it has ate nearly all the leaves and I saw a pile of black eggs on a leaf. Last year some moths laid eggs in my lettuce and they ate it all. I need to do something but not sure what to do about this! Very frustrated.

If you have a small bed of greens, you can put a net over them. It will have to be supported so the netting does not touch the leaves. But that won't protect this year's plants from the eggs and insects already residing on them.

Thank you. I guess I can pull up the broccoli and calaflower to save the rest. I can pick up some tool or something at Walmart. Thank you. I dont want to lose the rest of my veggies too.

The caterpillar is from the cabbage butterfly . Those eggs are poo . BT works on the caterpillars and is safe even on day of harvest . BT =

Idk if it would help but I let a pair of my chickens run around in the garden once a week depending what is growing. I don't do it if I have recently planted any seed. So far im bug free.

I can't let my chickens out like that. My dogs favorite meal is our chickens. I have to fight to keep them too. I do appreciate all the help from y'all so much.

It's been raining here again today. I think it's been 17 days since the sun has been out. My tomatoes are getting yellow leaves, possibly from lack of sun. Could be the soil too. On a positive note, the rabbit hutch is almost finished! I hope to start a worm bin underneath it. Any thoughts or recommendations? I was thinking about putting a couple of plastic bins under the hutch to catch the waste, with appropriate holes drilled, etc. or just frame out out a bin with 2x12?
