What did you do in the garden today?

I am so behind on reading posts! I'm only on page 649 and you all are up to page 680!!
Ooh, you planted sunflower? The race is on! Did you plant all of them or only part? Tomorrow i need to cut the one piece of wood left to finish my brooder and get it painted. My wheel barrow is full of soggy soil, so maybe i can dig a trench to put it in and plant more of my sunflowers! Or, i may be pounding in t posts, you never know.

I planted the whole package worth, but it was a small package. So far, I haven't seen any of them sprouting.

We planted two packets. Kinda like set all eggs some may not hatch. Huh chicken math!!!!
I do have a person in the area on Craig's list that has about 10 varieties of English Orpingtons may pay her a visit this weekend if I get my pens organized. Some culling to do on my Altsterier so that I have two roosters and several hens. I already have Lavender Orpingtons and wanted a different line added.

Yesterday, I pulled up all of my kale & spinach. It looked like lace! The bugs apparently had a feast in the 5 days that I was gone! I also pulled up 1 of the 3 zucchini plants ( again bugs) and may need to pull up the other 2. I dug up all of my onion plants as the tops had all died and were brown. I replanted kale & spinach seeds and picked some cherry tomatoes and finally had 1 regular size tomato that was ripe. The cucumber vines look like they aren't going to do much for me this year.:( The mystery plants definitely look like pumpkins now and I have 3 pumpkins on them 2 of which are decent sized. There were more but they have started to rot or fallen off, so I toss them to the chickens. I don't think I am going to be able to catch up with all of the posts that I have missed.

I planted the whole package worth, but it was a small package. So far, I haven't seen any of them sprouting.

I haven't had time to check the sunflower seeds yet. I do know they are getting water. The gals have seen to that. Cleaning the barn yesterday and today doing a dump run has once again saved the roosters camp fridge and my neighbor gave me another rooster.
I'm going to pull the other two luffas as the one is bustin out everywhere thankfully it's going along a section of cyclone fencing.

My neighbor has bird feeder. The wild birds drop planted the seeds randomly around my Mulberry Tree!
I didn't have to do a thing except enjoy!

Hoping to work outside tomorrow unless rain or husband looking for truck. I miss being out when i stay in but the heat and humidity makes me so tired!

The heat has taken its toll here as well. Sitting on deck with second cup of coffee looking at trailer that needs loaded and a barn that needs sorted. Really enjoying the cool morning but will need to get started soon.

Looks like we are going to finally get several days in a row of heat without rain. Going to use some of my stored rainwater up and make room before the next storm. Tomatoes have a couple of days to ripen on the vine, then out they go and in go the reserved seedlings and cuttings for Season Summer B. Also planting another crop Of green beans. Harvested cukes this morning. Nothing else. We got a sprinkle last night, but not much, so watered everything well. Eating a Cherokee Purple tom with eggs and homemade rabbit sausage in a tortilla for breakfast. Love those tomatoes! Going to plant more of them from now on.

Going to the dollar and thrift stores today to look for big jars for canning and whatever else looks useful in new coop and run. You never know! I think I have everything I really need already, but it's nice to have options.

This last week I forgot to mention teaching the neighbor's two girls how to can! That was a great time. We canned tomatoe sauce and salsa and bread&butter pickles. Each took home two quarts of each that they made and decorated the lids and labels. Well worth the dozen jars and produce! They brought me a cute embroidered vintage apron as a gift. We got to talking and now they want to learn embroidery. I'll be hunting through my needlework boxes for materials and ideas next week, then have them over again in a couple weeks. Those girls loved the chicks, even though they aren't really fluffy babies anymore and most are flighty and wildish. Wouldn't surprise me if they talk their father into a couple.
